i kind of assumed that mail

i kind of assumed that mail wasn't on the ipod because it isn't always connected to the net like an iphone. Same with the widgets that cant always update. So they just keep it simple like an ipod should be. Thats how i assumed apple justify it.

Sorry Joe. we weren't sure

Sorry Joe. we weren't sure if that first comment was for real or not. Either way it cracked us up. just keeping it real over here - not trying to offend anyone..

It was pretty funny. :) But

It was pretty funny. :) But some people don't actually get the joke. :( I know it's tough in the face of such bizzaro logic to formulate a full response with explainations. Where to start really. But that's why they pay you the big $$$, to do the tough job!

P.S. Like the post down below talking about Mail on Mac Books. But maybe with a little less sarcasism. ;)

Well, that WOULD explain why

Well, that WOULD explain why Macbooks ship without Mail or Widgets. I mean, imagine if your Macbook tried to download mail or update a widget when it was out of range of wifi. It'd be a disaster! A disaster, I say!

They should probably pull Mail off the iMacs and Mac Pros, too, you know, for those times when the modem is down, or the power is out.

And speaking of power, What if you tried to turn on your mac during a blackout?
Best to ship all Macs without software, because iLife and Safari are notoriously unreliable during power outages.

I'm glad to see stumbler on

I'm glad to see stumbler on there. Stealing Wifi is my right!

- what about the WiFi ITMS? This has got to be one of the most promoted features of the new iPhone and iPod touch. Yet it does not work when you're outside a WiFi connection; just as Mail, Maps, etc would if they were included. Yet Apple says those apps are not included becuase of a lack of connectivity?

It's orwellian doublespeak.

put it this way then. The

put it this way then. The iPhone is a communication device. Mail is a communication app.

The iPod is not a communication device so no mail or SMS or iChat or voip.

Sure the OS can run those but that's not how Apple advertised it.

Why buy an IPhone, when the

Why buy an IPhone, when the Ipod Touch can do all the same things except for making a phonecall? I don't think apple is stupid, they just want to make sure that both products stay interesting.
IPhone: making calls + Mail + Maps
Ipod: Larger memory

What. Phone + internet

What. Phone + internet outside of wifi coverage isn't 'interesting'? Well it isn't actually that interesting up here in Canada but that's only because Apple is trying it's hardest to make it a PITA to have it. But if I was stateside, yeah it'd be pretty darn 'interesting'.

Ah, iPod Touch hacking is

Ah, iPod Touch hacking is going to be fun.

Actually I consider a mail

Actually I consider a mail app being *more* important on a device that doesn't have access all the time. If there's an app I can write a reply for a mail and so without being connected and then send when I am online. The work around would be to do what...having Gmail open i Safari all the time and be sure to have the correct mail open so you can write a reply (or a newone)? Er, right. That said, though, I think the iCal-thingy is a more reasonable request than a full blown mail app, even if I'd love to have one on the iTouch.

As for the iPod not being an iPhone argument... So Apple gives us a device with which we can surf the internet (no other iPod doing that), watch YouTube (again no other iPod), *add* contacts in the address book (care to give me a rational "it's an iPod argument" here?) iPod, tells us we can add stuff in iCal (only to remove it a few days later) and now we're supposed to remove all obvious comparisons with the iPhone and the iTouch. If they wanted to make it simple for them they wouldn't have removed the iCal functionality, that's what started the uproar in the first place and justifyingly so. You can throw the "it's only an iPod" argument around all day if you want to fool yourself but then you have to add in the other inconsistencies the Itouch bring and ask yourself is it really "only an iPod"?

Haven't you heard Nintendo DS isn't a Gameboy per se either...
