Hey Dick Tracey, Your iPod Nano Video Watches are on the Way
With the new iPodnano coming in at a little over two inches and almost square, there are a lot more interesting tricks that can be done with them than previous iPods. As small as the gen-2 iPod was, the form factor of the new Nanos begs for more applications. One such use is the watch.
Now don't get us wrong, we don't expect Steve to roll up his sleeve to reveal the new Nano on his wrist the way he yanked the generation 1 Nano out of the change pocket in his jeans two years ago. As a matter of fact, we wouldn't even expect Apple to come out with a watch band for the device. This task will most likely be left to the third party iPod accessory makers.
Oh by the way, before you run to the comments and tell us our artwork sucks, let it be known that we are well aware of this. If you want to be constructive, dear readers, why not put your art skills to good use and make some hot mockups. We'll replace our ugly, half-assed ones with yours.
BTW, thanks Gizmodo for the original Nano that we slapped on the watches!
More ugliness after the jump....

The previous iPod nano was squeezed on a wrist. If they dared to do this with the old Nano - the temptation to do this with a more watch-faced Nano will undoubtedly irresistible.

Lots of other "wrist watches" come in much bigger than the new Nano

There are other absurdities that are much bulkier that have been put on wrists......

Maybe even the iPodtouch can be put on your wrist?

Looks like it could be utilised that way, a ipod watch could be the next big hole in the market after all...
Is it tuesday already? Let the mock ups and speculation begin! lol
No, please not. I'd be continually scared of things that touch my wrist.
It would also mean I'd have to be a more careful fighter, so... no.
not for everyone obviously...
Go all "Do the Right Thing" and get one for your other wrist, and play some album named "Hate".
the problem with watches with unnecessary devices on them is just that. until the technology gets the size down to the size of a 2nd gen shuffle with wafer-thin technology, it's just awkward.
leave the retrobulk instruments where they belong: in our retrospect.
I don't see the point...
Headphones popping out of your ears everytime you move your arms... Definitively a great accessory! I think I would buy one and hang myself with.
i hope steve will unveil a completely different lookin nano anyway.
I wear my ipod on my arm when I go to the gym with this crazy ugly velcro strap . So I can def see this happening when the 3rd parties get involved.
see, i highly doubt the new Nano will look like that. why? because it doesn't make any sense. let's look at the last 3 iPod designs. there's the current generation Nano. anadoized aluminum enclosure. the current gen Shuffle. anodized aluminum enclosure. the iPhone. now, i know you're thinking, that doesn't look anything like the Nano and Shuff! wrong. it does. the only difference is, the whole face of it is a screen, so you can't have a tube of anadoized aluminum. but look on the back. omg, anodized aluminum.
so i think that there's no way that the Nano will go away from its current anodized aluminum and start looking like the current gen big iPods, but the other way around, that the big iPods will start to look like everything else in the iPod family.
not enough proof? how's about we look at all the newest computer designs. the new iMac: anodized aluminum. the new keyboard: anodized aluminum. the Mac Pro: anodized aluminum. the Mac Mini: anodized aluminum. Are we seeing a trend here? yeah, i'm sorry, but the shiny aluminum back with clear plastic front is dead. my guess is, the Nano will either not change in design, but just get a memory bump, or it will just get smaller, but not fatter, and definitely not in the style that they just got rid of with the Nano a year ago.
Great idea for this new iPod... Things really start to fit... I'm guessing that Apple is going to merge the iPod nano and the smaller capacity iPod video (30 Gb) into this newer product, making it more portable, lighter and smaller, with the same capacity as the big brother (same 30 Gb), though with a flash memory. In the high end market I'm beting on the 120 Gb iPod (named only iPod, because they want people to understand that their flagship mp3 player doesn't need wheel cilck anymore...) with the touch fullscreen without the wheelclick
Could this fatboy nano actually be the redesigned shuffle? Its about the same size... Could be.
This would actially work very well with bluetooth headphones, I can really see this as a possiblity. And no longer do you have the awkward "Ahhh I can't navigate my iPod nano on my shoulder, everything is upsidedown hard to see!"
@crabs: Perhaps you missed the point. This is an extremely rough mock-up. The original post says "Thanks Gizmodo for the original Nano that we slapped on the watches!" They've used a first-gen Nano for this. You've got to remember that this is spitballing at its most extreme.
I think aluminium will be everywhere tomorrow.
Here it is, looking like it just stepped out of an aerobics class:

I would love to see this! all of the wrist bands out there now have the nano facing the wrong way! Nice work :D
