iPod Nano w/camera drawn up by iLounge

iLounge is agreeing with an earlier report by French site MacBidouille, saying that the next generation iPod Nanos will have cameras built-in.  They've drawn a mockup which also includes a wider screen and smaller scroll wheel.  Notice the somewhat strange placement of the camera on the rear of the device, below.

While the Nano-cams will certainly have a novelty appeal, we are most excited about the iPod Touch having a camera and the addition of interesting Internet/Apps capabilities that the iPhone currently enjoys.

iLounge also has information on the iPhone front.  They note that there will be three different iPhones based on the type of wireless provider.  These include a Chinese only edition, a 3.6Mb 3.5G version and a 7.2Mb 3.75G version for countries with advanced HSDPA bandwidth.  All regions should have 32GB/16GB options.

Perhaps AT&T can work on a special New York City version which gets 56K speed and hangs up after 30 seconds of talking.  Oh wait.  They already have one.

the camera is absolutely in the wrong place. it should be on the top. it might seem arbitrary, but it's not. show us one cellphone that places the lens on the bottom edge, in either its horizontal or vertical orientation.

The camera is in exactly the RIGHT place. If you flip it around the camera would be directly over the button that you click to take the picture.

this is absurd...your hand would either block the picture from being taken or you would be incredibly uncomfortable holding the thing

iPod Nano w/camera drawn up by iLounge BADLY!

As if Apple would put a lens in that position... 1, its just plan ugly and 2, completely in the wrong place... Nice one iLounge.

I can understand the chinese market phone but...

Why a 3.75G and 3.5G difference? Wouldn't 3.75G be backward compatible with 3.5G networks anyway since they'd have to fall back in areas with spottier coverage?

I'm just not seeing the rationale here. Apple would have greater economies of scale with just one chipset (2 if you include the China-only model).

nope

nope

I DONT GET THE WHOLE CAMERA ON IPOD THING!!!
Ipods are for listening to music, and looking at your media.

I totally agree, why would you want a camera on an iPod?

I understand why on an iPhone, take a pic, upload it or send it to a friend etc.

But what is the point of a camera on a Nano? Take a pic and then what?

As others have pointed out, the camera is in totally the wrong place. The lens would be blocked by your hand.

Assuming they are keeping the current gen Nano form factor, it's also not doable from an engineering point of view. Once again assuming the outside dimension will remain the same, the lens would have to be located right smack-dab in the middle, and on the top... like a couple of CMs above the Apple apple.

Is it me or that a camera on the iPod touch is absurb. I know I'm going to get down ranked for this but I think apple might give either the iPhone the five megapix camera and the iPod touch get an 3.2 or the 2 mega pix camera because I believe that apple values their iPhone customers more than their iPod touch so yea. I really believed it's fair that the iPhone get a better camera while the iPod touch get an lower mega pixel camera
