VoIP, printing and Bluetooth streaming for iPhoneFri, 04/04/2008 - 03:19 — Andy Space
Meanwhile, third-party developer Jajah has confirmed it intends producing a solution that will legitimately enable voice over IP calling using the Apple device, though only when using a WiFi connection. Apple confirmed it would allow the development of VoIP applications in early March, when it announced the new software and the iPhone SDK. Jajah will ship its VoIP solution shortly after the iPhone Software 2.0 ships in June. Developers have been exploring the new version of the iPhone Firmware since it debuted, and interesting nuggets suggesting the addition of a new set of features for the device continue to emerge. Such new features include more general support for YouTube in Safari - where users navigating to a YouTube video using the browser have so far been transported to the built-in YouTube application, it appears users can now expect to enjoy their video within a browser session. Bluetooth support has also reportedly been improved in the new software. Apple has clearly understood that the limited form of Bluetooth currently supported by the device is inadequate for many users, who want to, for example, stream music from their iTunes collection held on their device to external speaker systems. Now it appears Apple will deploy Bluetooth GPS and A2DP (required for media streaming) on the phone. It also appears possible users will be able to print directly from their device - a useful feature for backing up important email correspondence. The evidence for this is a new Printers folder which has appeared in the Library of the OS, though this doesn't mean such support is a definite for the release.

Yeah! Bluetooth GPS rocks!
Yeah! Bluetooth GPS rocks! The iPhone just keeps getting better and better. That craptastic Android effort has even more catching up to do now.
I have a bluetooth enabled printer
And I hope I can print e-mails from my iPhone to it soon. That would be godly. (it's also a bonjour networked printer, so printing over wifi is fine too)
Im gonna
Im gonna cuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuum!
GSM VoIP
Hey, just thought I'd stick my 2cents in about the VoIP question. From what I understand of the mobile phone business, most carriers are blocking VoIP protocols from their data networks. So the fact that the Jajah solution should only work via wifi isn't due to Apple but to the networks. Just thought I'd mention that before people start bitching about it ;o)

I wonder if wireless syncing
I wonder if wireless syncing is around the corner too.
Bluetooth
I hope they allow Bluetooth transfers of the phone book to automobiles with build-in Bluetooth telephony.
That feature's already
That feature's already there. At least on my Lincoln with Sync. It autosyncs the phone book every time I turn the car on with the phone in range.
Well since the sdk is still
Well since the sdk is still only beta I wonder what features it will have when the final version is released in June.
I can only hope they are keeping back some surprises. :)
A2DP?.. Be still my heart.
Can this mean perhaps A2DP support will be coming to Macs as well? It has always vexed me significantly that Apple wouldn't let me use bluetooth headphones. This is awesome. If you guys are right, you will be awesome by proxy.
A2DP
Hi there,
A2DP is supported in Leopard, which isn't widely known but such support is there. So you can use Bluetooth speakers and the like with your Mac.
Does the iPhone hardware
Does the iPhone hardware support this stereo bluetooth feature? The software may be in there for newer phones only. I don't know enough about the topic to answer that.
But, all I can say, is yippee...another $100 to spend on my iPhone accessories once they come out with a bluetooth enabled stereo headphones and mic set to use on the iPhone. LOL.
A2DP Support...
Is in Leopard.
Would like bluetooth keyboard
I'd like to put some of these kits together for our students, using iPhones

Wireless Printing & Audio Streaming
Now that would be cool to have on the iPhone. I've found myself emailing site pages to myself to print on my MBP. To do it directly from my iPhone/Touch would be nice. Wireless stereo headset....I'd love to have that. Working out with wires dangling is cumbersome.
iphone sync to auto
can the iphone sync to car as far as using hands free bluetooth calling and recieving phone calls?
GOod site
