I wonder if this is all due to changes in how fast Apple will start selling the iPhone in all of the countries that have announced over the past several weeks. I have trouble believing that all of those countries will be selling on Day 1.

I expect the phone to be available in the countries where the iPhone is currently avaialble (US, France, Germany, UK)...and the other countries ramping over the next few months.

Plus there is still no deal for China. The delay in getting a deal with China Mobile could be impacting the product volume ramp.

Maybe because of the switch over from Iphone 1 to Iphone 2 they have a gap. They were expecting several million in Iphone 1 parts sales this qtr and apple scaled back Iphone 1 early and did not scale Iphone 2 as fast as Infineon had hoped. Since it all occurs near the end of the qtr. I would say in doesn't mean anything as far as the Iphone 2 goes.

Interesting how the analysts want to have it both ways. First, they claim that Apple is still a minor player in the phone market and insignificant to the market as a whole. Then, a chip supplier says their HSDPA chip sales will drop somewhat - and the analysts blame Apple. Hint: Apple buys only a small fraction of all HSDPA chips in the world. A drop in chip sales doesn't say anything about iPhone schedule.

It does go on to say what analysts are concluding from the news, but it should also be pointed out that this warning is only for the current QUARTER. Not for the rest of the year, even though one usually leads to the other.

As for the iphone delay, I draw a different conclusion from this, that Infineon might not have been able to meet their order for Nokia this quarter, because they are ramping up production for the specific iphone chips that are needed for the rest of the year. Those chips are probably higher margin than the deal with Nokia. Especially given the likelihood that they will be supplying both the 3G chip and the GPS chip

As a stockholder, Apple better start selling soon? One month delay in selling product because Jobs needs his marketing fix?
No other company waits for intro s like Apple, where Jobs has to get up in front of everyone and show off, go back to making money and dont worry so much about Jobs ego.

I live in Italy and i'm waiting for iPhone since the beginning...it's time to release it Steve...i don't want to wait another couple of months...

Last week we took notice that Infineon's CEO was resigning due to disagreement on strategy. Whah?! This week we hear that the company's prospective sales are inferior to their predictions.

Maybe Infineon's CEO is being sacked because he couldn't hold is client from previous projects. Maybe he is being sacked because Jobs got tired of hearing how difficult it was to produce a 3G chip and how battery consuming it was and he saw NVIDIA and Broadcom at the Barcelona Wireless World Exhibition showing off working models of devices who ran 3G ASICs (system on a chip) that do 3G, GPS, FM Radio and even Mobile TV and what-not. Maybe Jobs was furious he was losing huge piles of money because he was holding on to a company that couldn't be up to par with its competition.

Maybe Jobs decided to go with Broadcom. Or NVIDIA.

Or all of them! Jobs is an intelligent man and he never was a slave of suppliers, quite the contrary.

So if Infineon says they're going to build far less chips than anticipated, most likely they have lost Apple as a client!
