Next-gen iPhone w/ 5-Megapixel camera for second half 2010 - WWDC launch?
Taiwanese sources suggest the debut of an all-new model iPhone, equipped with a 5-megapixel camera, could coincide with the currently mooted WWDC 2010 event in June.
Industry sources report orders for OmniVision’s CMOS image senors as used inside the iPhone are set to more than double in 2010, anticipating 40-45 million units will ship next year, in contrast to the 20-21 million estimated to have shipped in 2009.
We can also look forward to higher-quality cameras in future iPhone models - Digitimes sources report OmniVision has “secured 5-megapixel CIS orders for the next-generation iPhone model, which will hit shelves during the second half of 2010.”
OmniVision doesn’t manufacture the cameras inside every Apple iPhone: while it provides the 3.2-megapixel camera inside the iPhone 3GS, the iPhone 3G uses a 2-megapixel system manufactured by Aptina.
Include iPod Nanos, and OmniVision shipped 65 million image capture sensors to Apple in 2009, the report also reveals. This has helped the maker file profit of $8.1 million in its fiscal Q2, up from a $5.3 million loss one year ago.
But reviewing this information, our takeaway is the promise of 5-megapixel cameras inside a future iPhone model, alongside introduction of a new model of the device from around June 2010. This means introduction of the new model iPhone could once again coincide with Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference, currently rumored to take place at the end of June 2010.

Looking forward to the new iPhone next year. Will be eagerly anticipating new features. A better camera would definitely be nice!
Thanks for breaking the news!
A better camera is very welcome, but will we ever be happy with the results if there is no camera flash? Perhaps the new iPhone can support FLash on the internet as well?!
Do I need to update?
A camera flash would be a nice feature on the next model iphone, but support for adobe flash is a software/firmware issue and could be added to all iphones at anytime. We wouldn't need a new model for that.
For the next iPhone I'm hoping for 720p video recording and multitasking of some kind. Even if it's just 1 or 2 apps we can choose to run in the background. Better battery life too, of course.
The iPhone does multitask you can listen to music and surf at the same time.
You know what I meant. I want a 3rd party app to run in the background, like Sirius XM.
I notice the iPod on the iPhone can run in the background, but not Sirius XM or Pandora or Slacker, etc., etc,
By the time they introduce it, most of camera phone has been equipped with 10 Megapixel, autofocus, flash and smile detection. Not so great deal about it.
Obviously you have no idea what constitutes a good photo. The Megapixels determine the size of the image, not its quality. The camera aperature is responsible for picture quality. Also, larger images = larger files = longer time for images to be saved.
I for one would like a breakout box with audio and video inputs. I want to be able to hook up hot switched cameras and an audio feed from the mixing board at conferences and stream it to ustream.tv.
Sounds great!... How much are you willing to pay for that service to AT&T (or your preferred service provider if not AT&T)
Hi,
Better camera would be interesting.Eagerly waiting for new iPhone.Thank you for sharing..
Yeah, seriously...the iPhone 2010 needs to support Adobe Flash. We still don't get the full internet experience.
So I would like that, a better camera, better video shooting capabilities more memory, a better graphics card and the ability to use the phone like you could an external hard drive!
battery life, duh!
Hi Apple Developer's,
Please make sure the new version in 2010 as the following.
1.Louder external speakers, As cheaper phones sound much louder, Allowing a better experience with out headphones.
2.Be equipped with 10 Megapixel, autofocus, flash and smile detection, As Apple is a premium brand phone and is the most expensive phone on the market.
3.Larger memory min 80 Gb hence can transfer data from Mac Pro and the iphone should be able to create folders.
4.Have Word and Excel on it.
5.Larger SCREEN.
5.Have SKYPE INTEGRATE OR PREINSTUALED LIKE 3 PHONE IN THE UK.
6.More free Useful software for business users and students in Universities.
7.Support Adobe Flash.
8.Iphone needs to support Sirius XM or Pandora or Slacker
Your requests are retarded and i can 100% guarantee that none of them will happen!!

Whilst everyone is asking for things, here is what I would like to see on the new iPhone, as I know Job's technicians are big readers of this space:
1. 7 powered channel line out from the phone for my sub-woofer and surround sound for my motorbike helmet.
2. Screen to expand to 70 inch with thermal sensitivity breath control.
3. The phone to include one of the many on-the-go cinematic 3D HD rendering programs.
4. Early detection inter-continental ballistic missile radar system native widget.
Make it $200 USD and I'd be keen as mustard.
