Want a Canadian iPhone 3G S without a plan? That'll be C$800 for a 32GB

BGR got the as yet unannounced no-plan price of the 32GB iPhone 3G S in Canada.  While those 800 Loonies will get you an iPhone, you'll need a few more to find a carrier besides Rogers to use it on.  Good luck with that.

SO what it's C$800? THat's just about €512. Here, in Ireland, to get current iPhone 3G 16 GB without contract (prepaid) you need to pay €569 (about C$890)... And that's the case for over 6 months now (since they came out in prepay). Even with new iphone "coming soon". Now that is even higher with business contracts - rates are great, but phone is spiking up to €620 (sic!) (about C$970, USD 855)...

yea but you have to add tax on top of that 800 (we dont include taxes in out prices in Canada). In ontario, where I live, tax is 13%.

so 800 x 1.13 = 904

That's just the real price of the phone. All the top-end phones from all manufacturers are pretty much in the same price category.

If you pay $99 or $199 for the phone, you'll just pay the rest + interests in the monthly payment.

I want my iPhone unlocked and without a contract and I'm willing to pay 500+€ for it.

Not sure about Canada, but the one in Ireland is still locked down to O2...

Sure, I want one of those at that price. If you buy one at that price it's the cell phone company that laughs all the way to the bank. Then add your monthly fees on tip of it. Why not just charge it to your credit card. Isn't that part of the problem. It's just a phone. pay the price and your part of the joke and the problem

904 cad, that would be decent in norway. cheaper than the 3g 16gb today.

...but without a plan does nit mean without a simlock..isn´t it

Does this apply for 3G owners wanting to upgrade!? :(

not in Canada. Everything is locked and locked down hard. And unlike AT&T, they Rogers/Fido will always refuse to give you the unlock code regardless of how long you've been with them and even if you're willing to pay for it

In case the iPhone I buy in Canada for me (living in Germany) is kaput, will it be possible to get a repairservice from Apple in Germany or should it be send back to Canada? Interesting point!

They won't fix it in Germany. You will need to send it to someone in Canada, so that they could send it (and receive it back...) from Apple. However, if your phone was unlocked or jailbroken, Apple may not accept it as on warranty...

Given that the off-contract price of the 32GB iPhone is actually $700.00, how are they going to get away with $800? How does that make any sense at all?

Also, the reason for the high price is stated as the three year term. In other words if you are one year into a three year term in Canada then you haven't paid off as much of the subsidy as someone in the States who has paid off one year of the two year term. The problem with that is, we pay more per month than AT&T customers in the USA do. So if the term is three years we should either be paying one sixth *less* per month than the US customers of AT&T, or we should have paid off the phone at the end of two years, which isn't actually the case is it?

Rogers/fido is a disgusting monopolistic "screw the customer" company that makes AT&T look like saints in comparison.

That last line was just about the best explanation I've ever read.

That's US$714 at the current exchange rates. What's it going for in the states? US$600?

Grr Rogers...

With a no term iphone can I use a different rogers plan that does not include data, and just use wifi? Or must I unlock it for that?
