iPhone OS 3.0 introduced on March 17th!
You think maybe we'll see some cool new Pre busting stuff? How about some push notifications? Copy/paste? MMS multimedia? Tethering? Are you excited?
Join us at an invitation-only event to learn about the new SDK and get a sneak peek at the iPhone OS 3.0 software. The event takes place at Apple, Building 4, Town Hall on March 17 at 10:00 a.m.
Engadget just got the announcement.
We just got the announcement, iPhone OS 3.0 is coming. Set your clocks, mark your calendars. It's going down March 17th. Apparently, we'll get a sneak peak at the new OS, as well as a look at a brand new version of the SDK. Exciting stuff indeed, and we'll be there live at 10am PST (1pm PST) with the liveblog. Apple's calling this an "advance preview of what we're building," so we're not expecting anything ready to go as of the 17th, but hopefully this will allow developers to start building toward future functionality (hey, how about some push notifications?), and presumably users won't have too many months to wait after that for the real deal.

Copy and past for the love of god!
LOL!!
how about picture messaging, which should have been released day 1? I am so tired of hearing about how such a supposedly advanced device such as the iPhone doesn't have it.
"Normal" people might not even want cut and paste, but they sure do want to send a picture of their cute lil dog to grandma.
this is something that is left out on purpose because it is expensive and low quality, not because its not there yet or anything, apple are just the 1st to phase it out, like many other things, to push other technology thats more modern (email / mm sharing / flikr etc
Why don't you try doing it the old fashioned way... use email.
"Why don't you try doing it the old fashioned way... use email."
Because not everybody can send and receive email on their cellphones (i.e. not all cellphones are smartphones).
I am so f*cking sick and tired of that argument.
Use your brain. NOT ALL CELLPHONES ARE SMART PHONES! NOT ALL CELLPHONES CAN DO EMAIL!!!!
The point of MMS is transferring a picture from ONE MOBILE DEVICE TO ANOTHER MOBILE DEVICE.
Of my ten closest friends, only 2 of them have smart phones capable of receiving email. The rest use cheap, standard cellphones, and ALL of those cheap cellphones do MMS.
... but if they ain't free, I don't want to send them, and I certainly don't want to receive them.
See http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/28/business/28digi.html
MMS and Text messaging is a huge scam. Nothing more.
Ok. So here is what I would like to see from the lovely APPLE, you guys are the best.
1. Landscape keyboard (almost in every single native app on the phone)
2. Copy/Paste.
3. One Folder where I can place all my apps and games in it as sub-folders (I don't want to scroll through screens). So it is like Finder.
4. search feature.
5. 3D dock where I can place multiple icons.
Thank
Features that iPhone should have to be serious for business users
-search email, jump to reply/forward
-calendar repeating and alerting
-sync exchange and ical calendars
-home screen info
-copy/paste
-send vcards
-multiple address books
-some way to edit a word doc
-push thru cloud feature
-sync notes to something
Features to catch/keep up
-voice dial
-one touch dial/email/text
-autofocus camera
-attachment saving/file manager
-email account switching
-wifi printing
-video recording
Feature I want:
In iPod and Safari, force rotate when it gets stuck with MacBook trackpad rotate gesture
Hell, even Microsoft Outlook on Windows Vista doesn't have a proper search facility or vcard handling. And you want these features on the "enterprise-free" iPhone? You're on acid.
I second your list. Not asking toooo much.
I'd sure love to be able to refuse a call in screenlock mode,
don't think it's too much to ask..
Sure, you can mute it but it still rings 4 times before going into voice mail,
and if you want to make a call when some knob calls you before
you unlock your phone... you have to wait the time it takes to go to voicemail.....
You can already do this..just hit the sleep wake button twice.
Just press On button for arround 3 sec, this feature its with us always
Sorry for my clumsy english
I'm hoping for a brand new iphone OS that totally upstages Palm's WebOS.
Its gotta have multi-tasking and a new GUI that intuitively takes advantage of this. Plus it needs to have all the little things thats been annoying the heck out of public because it wasn't there before......including copy and paste!
With the SDK being released on Mar 17th at this event its going to give the devs time to make new apps that take advantage of all these features. And it will done just in time for the new hardware coming out in June!
the pre does no more multitasking than the iphone, its a myth, iphone does phone / text / music / email / updates / alarms all in the background, the pre does nothing on top of that.
Remember that Palm doesn't actually have a WebOS yet. It's all vaporware at this point.
BB 4.7 and iPhone 2.2 are available at retail outlets. It's impossible to compete with something that just doesn't exist.
I hope Apple doesn't make dangerous assumptions like what you are suggesting.
Palm hopes Apple thinks it is just vaporware. That 5 year head start Apple had for the iphone tech has turned out to only be 2 years.
The competition has caught up and is starting to surpass. iPhone 3.0 has GOT TO BE a knock out of the park for Apple in order to maintain the lead.
Trust me, Apple is the king of driving design. Although Pre is just vaporware at this point, Apple is ready to trounce any potential competitor.
Palm had a 5 year head start on Apple. Apple and Blackberry stole that away. Palm is now 2+ years behind EVERYONE. Do you seriously think that Apple is just sitting there, with Google/HTC, BB, Microsoft, and Nokia going at full force? No, they're waiting for the right moment to capture MORE of the market, and to do the most damage to the competition.
So far, Palm has merely ANNOUNCED WebOS. Clearly it is not at the stage where anyone outside of a small, uncritical circle has actually tried it. That's a bad sign for Palm... as in the mean time it is literally destroying their existing product sales.
I'm wondering if 9to5mac has heard whispers of what will be in this OS. I don't care if you think the rumors are false..just give us something!!
Well, we think the 10 inch tablet will be ARM based so the OS will mostly be based on the iPhone OS most likely. If this is the case, then we'll see the basis for that on Thursday. Heck, we might even see a new product - because the SDK will have to have new resolutions or resolution independence.
Exciting? Yes!
Please Seth give us something! ........anything!!!!
Ok so I guess you did just give us a little something.
........now give us more!!! LOL!
Safari 4?
You're all thinking down the lines.
The new SDK will be setting developers in the direction of not relying on a fixed screen resolution. That way they can develop for the iPhone/iPod Touch and some 9.8" ARM device... you see where this is going?
Holy freaking fiddle sticks I think you may just be right!!!
:D
This is just a preview event of OS 3.0. So why does your headline make it sound like OS 3.0 is coming March 17th?
TO SELL MORE PAPERS GOD DAMM IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:)
What's with all your Pre crap? Pre-Bustin? WTF? You want a phone that looks like a slightly cooler Palm? You want a phone that can only run web apps? You want to look like Lancelot Link Secret Chimp with a banana phone everytime you need to type. Wake up.
