It looks like iTunes wants to update our iPhone to version 2.0.2. Will it be more stable? Will it fix the issues that Stevo said existed? Will it break Netshare (Update: No)? How about jailbreaking? Inquiring minds want to know. How'd it go for you?
I have been particularly sensitive to the slowness of contact search. In 2.0, when you click on contacts, it would take 6-8 seconds for the list to appear, another 4-5 seconds before the screen would start scrolling and allow the kybd to pop up. Then, when you hit the first character, there would be 3-5 second pause while it did first character matches.
With 2.01, for the first hour hour two, it was better, not a lot, but better. Then it slowed back doen.
With 2.02, this appears to be MUCH better. So far ;-) When you click contacts, the initial screen comes up immediately. As long as you wait about 1-2 seconds, then click SEARCH, the kybd comes up quickly. (If you click faster than 1-2 seconds, it misses the touch and never comes up.)
When you start typing, there is a short 1-2 second lag after the first character, then you can type away. MUCH BETTER. Lets hope it stays better tomorrow.
I'm not sure about this. Last time I upgraded, Russian tanks moved into Georgia and my garage door got stuck. I was on hold to Apple for 3 hours before an indifferent operator told me that this had nothing to do with them. I then had to wait a further 17 HOURS for a guy to show up and repair the garage door AT MY EXPENSE!!!
And as far as I can see, Georgia is still full of Russian tanks.
I'm going to steer clear of this one until Apple gets it's act together.
= weirdness. I upgraded to 2.0.2 after using the (slightly lame but) very convenient 'quickpwn' from the dev team. The update worked great. Things seem better. Here's the weird part:
After the update some of my icons that I hid with Poof! (built in with bossprefs) are still gone. Now this is good, because Stocks is pointless, but why some and not the others??? Oh, and the Make it Mine custom carrier logo is still there (as it was back in the 1.1.1 allll the way through 1.1.4 on my 1st gen iPhone), as well as the battery-percentage-number-instead-of-the-icon-thingy-mod.
The good news for me, the 2.0.2 upgrade installed without a hitch. The bad news, no change for me, an unjailbroken iPhone 3G. Same sluggish Contacts list, same sluggish keyboard, same 5-second delay when opening the Camera. It SEEMED a little faster at first, but then version 2 ALWAYS seems snappier immediately after a reboot.
Oh, and also, the SAME silence from Apple as to what this version is supposed to specifically improve or fix. WHY is Apple so damned secretive about what their software patches actually fix or improve? Why?
Are they afraid that people won't think they're perfect anymore if they say out loud what their firmware updates fix? Horror of horrors! If they say what's fixed, then that's the same as (gasp) *ADMITTING* that it wasn't right to begin with!!
I installed 2.0.2 this afternoon. Since the upgrade, apps from App Store crash 3-4 seconds after launch. When I noticed the crashing I shut off / restarted the phone... no luck.

they all crash.
Native apps such as Weather, Safari, iTunes, Photos, etc... are all fine.
Anybody else experience this? Better yet, anybody experience this problem and solve it?
My iPod Touch was also updated today and the EXACT same thing happens. Only about 5% of my Apps will open at all and most of them are the Native Apps! Wow, I sure am glad I bought those other apps that I can use now... Not sure what to do now... Thanks for a wonderful update Apple...
When I first upgraded my iPod Touch to 2.0 I immediately wanted to try out the App Store and did so. None of the apps I downloaded and installed (directly to the iPod) would launch or, if they did, they immediately crashed. I synch'ed them all with iTunes, removed them from the iPod and reinstalled from iTunes (on my Mac). Then they all worked and subsequent downloads direct from the App Store work no problems. I have since upgraded to 2.0.1 with no problems. I'm yet to go to 2.0.2.

failed update
My update to 2.0.2 did not go so well. I got the 1619 unknown error and had to do a restore. Sort of a PITA restoring the media files....

Scrolling is smoother than before. Apart from that no big changes found. Nothing bad either
