iPhone IEMI Number can be seen with infrared, Blogs go wild

Not sure why we are posting this really - probably because we like infrared photos and Apple stuff...but anyway, some dude took an infrared picture of the back of his iPhone. Not sure why, but this is driving everyone  nuts.  Anyone care to shed some light on this (har)?

check the back of a v1 iPhone... you can see it with just average sunshine.

Basically it's just another mechanism to brand the iPhone with the IMEI number if unlockers change the IMEI number on the phone's software and switch out the SIM tray for a blank one then apple had a sure fire hard coded way to tell if it's been changed. Sort of like the refurbished iPods that have one serial number on the back and another serial number on the firmware's about section. Most companies don't even care though on iPods.
