iMac update clues

Is Apple going to upgrade the processors and hard drives on the Aluminum iMac in the coming weeks?
Clues:
- Apple is currently offereing up to $400 off of the refurbished Aluminum iMacs.
- MacNotes.de, a German site thinks it will be this week
- Intel is trying to phase out the Merom procssors that the current iMacs have (see MacBook Updates) for Penryns
- iMacs use the same class of processors as the MacBook/Pros.
- Apple is on an update tear lately with something, howver small, every week. The SDK might be next weeks goodie but how long can they go without throwing a processor update at the iMac?
So if you can wait a bit (and resist the $400 off refurb) on purchasing an iMac, you might be rewarded with some better specs.

Get yourself the refurbished ones!
The Penryns don't have any advantage in speed, and they got less Cache.
Or just wait till Autumn for the real next Update
The Penryns have more cache
The Penryns have more cache (penryn 6 , mermon 4) Except for the base MBP which has 3MB
i agree! intel arent
i agree! intel arent 'properly' updating their processors, just giving people something to talk about, so apple have done the same with a few minor updates to the macbook pro, and maybe the imac...
the reel update will be in june, when intel release their newest processors, thats when apple will properly update...
so to sum it up, if you want an imac now, get the refurbished one....
When is the Mini going to be
When is the Mini going to be updated? It really needs it and uses an even older chipset.

i think its about time to say goodbye to the mini
or look forward to a mid end desktop somewhere inbetween the mini and pro... w/o a big gross glossy screen attached
that Intel Extreme 2.8 for
that Intel Extreme 2.8 for $1899 is a bargain IMO. I don't think any new upgrade would outdo that chip anyway.
plus iMacs get no additional stuff like multitouch keypad or anything like that...I think...
I agree, I don't think there
I agree, I don't think there will be a 'real' refresh for a while. It was only September last year that they did something really spectacular. They might announce something big with the SDK but I doubt the iMac will get a refresh.

Wouldnt they perhaps be waiting for the sony superdrives that they couldnt get in time for the new Penryn Pros? I can't wait for a Blu-Ray Mac!!
Maybe a processor, graphics
Maybe a processor, graphics and hard drive bump but not much else.
Apple wouldn't damage it's relaunched Apple TV Take 2 and movie rental income stream offering BluRay just yet and the drives are still prohibitively expensive.
