New iMacs, Apple's first with Blu Ray?

Mon, 03/03/2008 - 07:44 — Cleve Nettles

Apple's next generation iMacs might not just be Penryn updates as speculated earlier.  If they are one of the first  computers to recieve the  Intel Eaglelake motherboard (which support Penryns), they could also have some Blu Ray configurations as well.  Some of the specs of this board, set to be released Q2 of 2008:

When will we see these possible iMac udates?  Eaglelake is expected in Q2 2008.  Apple, however is known to get some Intel technology before it is widely deployed.

Apple's iMac hasn't been updated since the Aluminum enclosure made its debut on August 7th 2007.

No Chance! (maybe in August)

No Chance! (maybe in August)

too early! it's likely that

too early!

it's likely that they'll be updated in june, so that they can update macbooks in july

maybe :p

Eaglelake is a DESKTOP

Eaglelake is a DESKTOP chipset, and those cpus have a 65/95W TDP.

Those will NEVER be used in a computer like the iMac.

It would be great for the mythical xMac, however.

It probably wont be this

It probably wont be this soon, but sheesh, it better happen sometime soon! Many, MANY Mac users (including myself!) are in the professional video world - we need to be able to easily create our video work on Blu-Ray. Its a shame that I have multiple Mac computers, but to effectively hand out a Blu-Ray disc to my customers, I actually have to use an external Blu-Ray burner and WINDOWS on boot camp. Its a real crime that it cant be done on a Mac. Shame on you, Apple, sham!

Please check eBay store:

Please check eBay store: stores.ebay.com/macinabox-store
There you can get your Mac with an internal Blu Ray drive.

Come on Apple! We know that

Come on Apple! We know that the iMac is your flagship product, but that's because it it is targeted at the common end-user who rarely does anything other than email and the internet.

Put Blue Ray in the Mac Pro where people will use it. I bet if you were to ask 100 iMac users what Blu Ray was, 95 of them would have no idea.

maybe now we'll finally get

maybe now we'll finally get that 30" iMac I've been waiting for so long now! apple, please please give us this BIG screen-real estate iMac.

Yes, a 30" imac would be

Yes, a 30" imac would be awesome. I don't think blu-ray is very likely, especially not before the mac pro. I hope they do update soon though in any case.

A BluRay drive in an iMac?

A BluRay drive in an iMac? They have yet to even add a 20x Superdrive to the MacPro. It's stuck at 16x and the iMac and laptops are at a paltry 8x.

Yeah, right. And it's also

Yeah, right. And it's also supposed to have HDMI? In an iMac? I just can't see
it happening. Also, don't iMacs have to use their own special motherboards, so the RAM can be at the bottom, the display can hoop up to it, and the ports can come out the back?

I dont think this makes

I dont think this makes sense realistically.  If blu-Ray was to be introduce into the Mac line it would make more snese for it to be in the Mac Pro.  And  Apple is probably too in love with their specially made display adapters to adopt something like HDMI onto their machines.  I hope it does get a better video card though, that 512mb one would be nice.  We shall see what happens.

Please let the new imacs be

Please let the new imacs be bluray and HD!

"recieve" (sic) < "i" before "e" except after "c"

Guess someone didn't pay much attention at school...

On board video in

On board video in imac????

What a joke $2200 + sever ram just to get a mac with a real video card and no min-range desktop with it's own video card or a desktop with desktop parts. This is why apple can't get in to offices.

It would be really cool to

It would be really cool to have blu-ray in iMacs but I hope it's a bit later , because I just bought my first iMac (march 2008) and I will really annoyed to know if I waite a bit longer I could have got a blu-ray iMac with a Eaglelake motherboard

Imac user

Blu ray in an imac is the only thing at the moment that would get me to buy a new computer - the G5 imac with 1.5 GB RAM is doing just fine at the moment.

ev dekorasyon

There you can get your Mac with an internal Blu Ray drive.
