Got a scratched Nano? How bout $25 for your pain?

The short of it is this:  The original iPod Nanos were easy to get scuffed up.  Some people got together and filed a lawsuit.  Five years later, they've settled on $4 Million for the plaintiffs and $25 for each person who can prove they have purchased a 1st generation iPod Nano.  If you got a sleeve with your nano, you only get $15.  Seems a bit frivolous, doesn't it?

People need to take better care of their stuff. I have 7 ipods dating back to the 4th gen and they all look like the day they came out of the box. No scratches.

... because of stupid stuff like this lawsuit.

Lame, stupid, idiotic, and just plain embarrassing. The fact that they won this lawsuit means Apple will be subjected to more of the same.

Hey, I accidentally scratched the face of my wristwatch, maybe I will sue Swiss Watches. Oh, and when I bumped my van against the telephone pole outside my house, the bumper scratched more than I think it should... maybe I should sue Dodge.

my 5 year old pair of shoes is "destroyed beyond recognition"... PUMA is responsible and they should free-replace it!!!

Proof that you should never underestimate the power of idiots in a large group.

It's absolutely deplorable the depths that people will stoop to justify that they've been "wronged", when in reality they're just putting the blame for their own ignorance on someone else.

If these same people would be so determined to right wrongs and directed their energy towards something like the Tobacco companies, the world would be a much better place. Sadly, we get nothing but greedy bastards who care about no one except themselves.

I have a 1st gen Nano. I went to the website from the supplied line to check it out. I can't with a clear conscience try to get even the 15 dollars. It states at the bottom that the scratches had to impeded your enjoyment of the iPod. How would a few scratches cause that?! Maybe I should sue Apple because I stepped on my 3rd gen 8 gig Nano and now that is scratched. Geez, what a bunch of tools.

The words "impeded your enjoyment" is HIGHLY subjective, I don't see how anyone could prove that one way or the other.

In actuality I've seen one of those 1Gen nanos before they started coating them, it was way worse than "simple scratches" Even being careful with it, it scratched worse than a latest gen in your pocket with no case and alongside your keys and coins.

I went to the website and typed in my serial number of my iPod nano, and they said it wasn't even a 1st generation iPod Nano! I know it IS a first generation, so I have no idea what's going on...

too many people these days try to find ways to get easy money out of companies. This is a prime example of how it happens.

Sorry, but if you can't take care of your stuff then don't buy it. And besides, nothing ever lasts.

i had a first generation nano. it was my first ipod, and i got it the week after it came out. and you know what? it was scratched to a point beyond recognition. it was awful. it did its job though, and the fact that it was scratched and so easily at that did make me angry but i can't say i would want apple to reimburse me. and on top of it i was stupid and left in my swimming trunks while i went swimming. i wouldnt expect apple to pay me for that either. stupid people.

It's easy to see that everyone here bitching about G1 nano owners haven't seen one of these units in use. In the beginning, I carried mine in a soft shirt pocket... and it got scratched anyway(!). Bought an Apple made protector made of rubber - then it got even worse (what the hell?!). None of my other iPods have been treated this carefully and they hold up way better. These must get scratched by thin air.

If you don't actually own or have seen one of the uncoated ones; please shut your mouth - you don't know what you are talking about (but I guess that won't stop the diehard fan boys from yelling like babies anyway).
