iPod Touch "3G" cases have camera holes

You know how this works.  Case manufacturers "sometimes" get information on upcoming iPod Touch information before the rest of the universe so they can have their products ready at launch.  In the past, they've leaked important information and Steve Jobs even cited them as a leak issue during a keynote.  They have also been wildly inaccurate in the past as well (iPhone nano anyone?).

With that in mind, UXSight has the following image for us to enjoy:

Notice the space for a camera in a different area as the iPhone's?  HardMac speculated in May that the new line of iPod and iPod touches would have cameras  iLounge then posted mockups of iPod's with cameras, saying their source had described the somewhat unorthodox location in the iPod Nano and iPhone-like iPod touch.  While the camera is pretty much a gimme at this point for me, I'm interested in the "3G" name.  Does that mean the new iPod will have a 3G radios in them or does it simply imply that this is the third generation device?  I can only hope for the former.

I think the 3G is probably referring to 3rd generation but you can hope.

I am intigued as to why the case only fits 8GB and 16GB models. That bit looks suspicious.

looks like the camera is going to be in the center as opposed to off-center like the iphone. but then why is there another hole in the first (red) case? Flash, perhaps? i hope so...

I think it's for the plastic WiFi antenna blob. I don't think it's necessary which would be why the other cases don't have them.

If 3G meant it had a 3G radio in it, it would be called an iPhone, no?

Yeah iPod + 3G = iPhone. What would be the point of that?

iPod touch (with lowercase "t") currently runs up to 32 gig. I would expect them to continue the doubling trend and drop 8 gig and introduce 64 gig models. The iPhone is at 32 gig, and the past two years iPod touch has had twice the capacity.

The "3G" name is exciting, however, the fact that they cite only two of three current sizes, and that one of those cited is expected to be dropped leads me to believe that they aren't very accurate.

Hmmm......I can't seem to find the phone menu of my iPod nano 4G. Shouldn't it have highspeed data access?

I think the case manufacturers dont really have a clue about the new product. One has a secondary hole possibly for flash and the others only have one. Also if you look clossely at the pictures above the hole for the camera is possitiond differently on the different casses.

The cases seem a bit fishy to me. If anyone of those were true I would guess the red one just cause it makes sence to put a camera up by the wifi. I do hope there is a camera for the next gen model. Some people don't think the touch needs one but it really does to make a fully functioning mini media center.
