iPhone to cost under €100 in Spain, has video, GPS

Remember the Times report which claimed the 3G iPhone will cost £100 in the UK, as it's to be subsidised? Now comes a new report which adds weight to that earlier speculation.

Telefonica SA's Movistar brand will be the sole distributor of the iPhone in Spain, the company revealed last night. Local Spanish press reports claim the new device will be sold for under €100 to customers prepared to sign a 24-36-month contract with the company.

The report - straight outta Madrid and carried by Thomson Financial - also informs: "The Spanish telecom group will sell the third generation of the iPhone, which has a video camera and GPS."

...yeah wtf does that mean?

Is that some horrible typo or did I miss something??

Yeah it's a quote, so must be verbatim, but in this case they clearly have confused the notion of second gen phone with 3G phone. We've had chats about that here, before settling on 3G iPhone, even though it could be confusing to a reader who wasn't aware of the fuss about 3G; referring to it as the 2G iPhone (second gen) caused confusion once.

But the rule for quotes is to be verbatim, or to paraphrase (so it's not a quote). In this case the judgement was to quote verbatim.

I hope it's a video camera on the front face for video conferencing instead of just doing video with the built-in camera. Of course, if it is just video from the plain old built-in camera (POBIC...heh) there's a chance some enterprising 3rd party developer will make an app that is able to send video while you talk. You'd have to flip the phone over to view video of the other person talking but it's better than nothing.
