WiFi-only Slingplayer app coming to iPhone for $30
Word on the street is that the much-anticipated Slingplayer.app will be hitting the App Store...any...minute...now. This follows numerous setbacks and reported rejections. The app will cost a hefty $29.99 and will unofficially work with all Slingplayers. This contradicts Sling's own website which said it would only work for newer models.
Additionally, the app will only work over Wifi, which eliminates much of the utility of having a Slingbox in your pocket. Sling had originally said that their app would work over Wifi, 3G and even EDGE. No doubt, AT&T and other carriers had a hand in this decision.
We'll post the app link when it becomes available, for those of you with $30 burning a hole in your pocket.

we already have had tv on the iphone in france for a month now in both 3G and EDGE....
the problem is that it is French TV.
SlingMedia not allowing SlingPlayer for the iPhone to use WIFI and only allow the cellular data connection is a let down for travelers. One thing I've regretted while traveling is the expensive data roaming rates for networks outside my country. Using WIFI for data lowers the cost for the end user. By forcing consumers to use just the cellular connection for data this not only increases the cost to the consumer but also increases the demand placed on the carrier network.
$30 sounds like alot to me when all the other software for sling media is free for all other platforms why they gonna try n charge for the iphone?
Over priced and way gimped. At least it will unofficially work with all the slingbox models, one piece of good news.
The reason for slingplayer mobile is to get it away from home with 3G otherwise i would watch slingplayer on my computer
Every time I visit this page and see this post, I add another thumbs down to the rating because of the ridiculousness of AT&T.
I would have no problem paying $30 extra for a one-time SlingPlayer app but AT&T's restriction makes me want to steal their $ and burn it for their greediness alone.
I too would happily pay £30 for the slingplayer app but I agree that the whole idea would be to get it on 3G, otherwise you could be out and want to move to an area with no WiFi and you would lose your slingbox connection.
Any idea if this app is available for UK users?
