Do the Japanese hate the iPhone? Notsomuch
Four months ago Brian X. Chen wrote a little tale called Why the Japanese Hate the iPhone. It went a little something like this:
Apple’s iPhone has wowed most of the globe — but not Japan, where the handset is selling so poorly it’s being offered for free.
What’s wrong with the iPhone, from a Japanese perspective? Almost everything: the high monthly data plans that go with it, its paucity of features, the low-quality camera, the unfashionable design and the fact that it’s not Japanese.
Fast forward a mere five months and let's have a little look at Japan's top 10 phones (right). Imagine if the Japanese actually liked the iPhone?

for basically writing a dumb, shallow article that he did not research.
It kind of seemed insincere and the corrections he made to the article were still a bit deceiving, especially when you read the email that the guy actually sent. He basically responded with his own article as to why the Japanese do like the iPhone once they actually use one themselves. It's just that Apple's restrictions prevent the Japanese carrier from actually marketing it in a way that works for the Japanese.
Check out the guys blog, it's actually a very interesting read, much better than the wired one:

Brian X can shove a pice of plywood up my ass
I was in Japan the week before the 3GS was being sold. I only saw about a dozen iPhones through out the country. Almost everyone had a Sharp flip phone. Good to see the 3GS is on top. Most of the flip phones i saw had horrible UI's.
