Commercial Times ups the ante to 3 different iPhones in June

The Commercial Times, which does have a solid iPhone prediction history (including the original iPhone), now says that they expect to see three iPhones in June.  One will be an EDGE version, likely for India (where 3G is slow to deploy) and other developing markets which may benefit from lower price points.  Another is everyone's favorite, the 3G model for Western nations.  The third is a CDMA version possibly for China and...dare we say...Veriz....nope, we aren't going there (again).  This would be a blow for China Unicom which plans to have a 3G network going in May and is already running iPhone ads. The Chinese populace would probably appreciate a choice between carriers.

Speaking (again) of choice, we do know that Apple has recently taken steps to make the iPhone more open in the US and available on Tmobile.

Or maybe that third iPhone is really a tablet of some sort?  The Commercial Times also mention that Apple is prepping an initial build of 4 million devices.  Read the translation and see if you can get anything more out of it.

Maybe Apple is considering several CDMA markets to break the monopoly in several countries. Canada has only one GSM/3G carrier, and three CDMA carriers. The Blackberry is available from every carrier, why not the iPhone?

for the same reasons why you

That's quite possibly the DUMBEST comment I've ever read!

Would be nice

Unfortunately, a China CDMA version doesn't necessarily mean it would be compatible with Verizon's or Sprint's network, but here's to hoping. More carriers, could translate into competitive pricing.

VERIZON

We can dream! I left Verizon for the iphone and other than then the AT&T part have not been disappointed. Would Love the iPhone to come to Verizon!

Well now

Sprint would indeed be nice.

Disappointing

This is not 3 different iphones at all. It's the same 3G with 2 other useless phones.

Where the nano??? Where's physical / functional / price differences?

A possible Verizon version?

A possible Verizon version? hmmm. Well. My contract from V is up in Sept, but I can resign up in may. I want to cancel in may so I can get the new iPhone in June and switch to ATT. Cancelation fee is $165 PER phone (we have 2) I know the chances are slim for the iPhone to come to Verizon, but that would suck. cancle Verizon, then Apple announces it for V. I guess we can wait till after WWDC to fully decide. But Verizon really, really screwed up not being able to work out a plan with Apple when they first came to them. Dumbest decision ever? I think so.

Hmmmm, good luck with that

Hmmmm, good luck with that move! Leaving the best wireless carrier in the States for an ipod touch with HORRIBLE service!? You have fun with your new carrier ranked at THE BOTTOM of the charts in EVERY catagory for a lousy phone! And the fact that you think your ETF is going to be the full amount just shows what an idiot you are! VZW drops the amount of your ETF for every month of your contract you complete.

I think your cancellation fee will be much less. At some point Verizon instituted a declining cancellation fee dependent on how many months remain in your contract. I'm planning on canceling mine in June for the new iPhone iteration.

One, Apple already had an EDGE iPhone and it works great in China. Their EDGE network is really quite strong, even in the rural countryside. I just don't see the pricing advantage to sell an EDGE phone. Why not sell a 3G one, with the 3G antenna off?

The third, would not be CDMA, it MIGHT be TD-SCDMA, which is China's homegrown 3G standard, and the 3G license assigned to China Mobile. My understanding is that it's not very good.

Okay, I looked at the story...

4549

...in chinese, and there's nothing really there of significance that hasn't already been rumored around. As I mentioned above, there's a part where they mention EDGE, 3G and China's standard, which I interpret as their TD-SCDMA. Reads like three separate units, but honestly, there's no reason why it can't be one handset. I mean, the current 3G iPhone can run EDGE.

WELL RIGHT FROM THE HORSE'S (A$$) MOUTH

We on Verizon will likely have to wait for LTE.

From DowJones Newswire: "Seidenberg also addressed the notion of the iPhone ever coming to the Verizon Wireless network, saying it's more likely that Apple Inc. (AAPL) would be willing to work with the carrier under the fourth-generation, or 4G, network, which follows the same technology standard as AT&T Inc.'s (T) 4G plans. He said Apple never seriously considered making a CDMA version of the iPhone because it didn't have as wide a distribution opportunity."

I guess late 2010, early 2011 at best.
