Screw Sling, Hulu player coming to iPhone?

We know the story with Sling on the iPhone is turning into an ugly one. Still want to get quality TV on your iPhone?  Good news!

According to SAI, there is a Hulu app coming to the iPhone and it is "BAD ASS".

Hulu is in the process of developing an app for Apple's (AAPL) iPhone and iPod touch, we have learned from a plugged-in industry executive. The app is coming soon (within a few months) and is "badass" -- as excellent as Hulu's Web site. Video will work over both wi-fi and 3G[nice!], we're told.

We absolutely love the sound of this and would even be happy to throw a few bucks toward the developers.  It will be interesting to see what AT&T thinks about streaming not Uverse video all day over their network.  Something tells us, it isn't going to be as easy as it seems.

Unless NBC does some major arm twisting I don't expect Apple to approve the hulu app the same say they rejected slingplayer.
I'm guessing wifi only.

What gives me the idea that this app won't be available outside of the U.S. iTunes Store?
C'mon Hulu, get your ass out there. The rest of the world is waiting.

couldn't agree with you more.  The good news is that Hulu's been hiring some international advertising teams which should bear fruit in the near future.

Of all of the old media companies, Hulu seems to know what they are doing more than most.  Which is saying exactly nothing

Well even if the app is available, you can't stream anything if you are out of the US. No matter, I can still use google to find torrents of the tv shows i'd like to watch then delete.

You need to learn about broadcast rights. Hulu won't be available in Canada (for example) until they've worked out a royalty scheme with Canadian broadcasters that have the exclusive right to show the material.

This is why it took so long to get iTunes TV to Canada and why the material is not the same as in the US iTMS.

Why can't the freakin make Hulu work on AppleTV? Huh? Explain that one! Why do they make Boxee shut it off. Btbpbtppbt

the tv studios still want you to watch tv the old way, they know for now people going to watch endlessly on a computer, its the same fear of change the movie studios have of downloads and dvds. arent

Exactly. Apple wants you to use iTunes instead and AT&T doesn't want you to use the bandwidth. It's be the same as others NO Skype over 3G, no SlingPlayer at all. What a surprise.

I don't see why they wouldn't allow Hulu over 3G. YouTube has been there all along and they're starting to offer movies and TV shows now. Where's the difference? There isn't one. Hulu will happen.

And maybe, just maybe, SlingPlayer might happen too. I remember reading a report that said AT&T is beefing up their network ahead of the next iPhone release so it an accommodate 10x the bandwidth. Could Apple be holding off approving SlingPlayer until those network upgrades are in place? They haven't rejected it yet.

Well, I really hope this sling story doesn't turn out to be "ugly." I already sold my Slingbox AV and replaced it with a new Slingbox Solo in order to prepare myself for the new Sling iPhone. Even IF the slingbox app gets approved, I'm pissed about my purchase. I'll be even more pissed if the app doesn't come out....

Forget hulu. I wanted to be able to access all my television content from anywhere. Hulu has only small portions. Sling I fast forward my commercials. I have a 1 Terr DVR, all my content is there! Imagine stuck at work behind a desk but you can still watch the UFC fight on PPV on your PHONE, while its being recorded elsewhere! Did I mention free or one time payment of 30 bucks for the app.

Why would ATT be so against the app but have recently allowed some serious bandwidth grabbing apps to be approved. Case and point was the Masters app. It worked on 3G and wifi and had lots of video.

Sling - release your iPhone app for jailbroken phones and do it now. Give it away as an incentive for new purchasers and to make up for your poor decision not to support older versions of the slingbox (even though your beta versions seem to have no problems with the older boxes).
