You've Bricked your Hacked iPhone and Want to Start Over?Fri, 09/28/2007 - 05:52 — Quincy Pince-Nez
But you couldn't help yourself?! You NEEDED the louder speakerphone! That period trick was TOO GOOD! Oh man, how awesome would it be to be able to pay $50 for a cable to plug into a huge TV and watch your iPod formatted videos - sure anywhere a TV works, so can laptop ... but come on - trust Apple not to bend you over! Well, it looks like there might be hope for you yet, Lloyd. It turns out there is a flaw in Apple's IMEI destruction software that destroys AT&T's GoSIM's IMEIs as well. All you have to do is go to the Apple store and lie - you know like when your 3rd grade teacher asked who ate all of the crayons/glue? Get somebody to read this if you can't:
Then maybe you can downgrade the OS and start over.

Well, since the cat's out of the bag now I would imagine that the Apple Store guys etc. will be all clued up about it....

don't count on it. While some of the Geniuses deserve their name, most aren't 2 trick ponies.
How does the iphone work on
How does the iphone work on GoPhone? Do you still have a 2 year contract eventhough prepaid doesn't require a contract?
it is actually a better deal
it is actually a better deal for a lot of people. All you have to do is enter an invalid SS# in the activation form and they'll put you on. IT is more $$ for roaming and calls unless you use those features infrequently.
That said...it is month to month and without a contract. So you aren't into AT&T for $1200 plus over 2 years
umm .. I bought this phone
umm .. I bought this phone from my friend and it had the AT&T sim in it at that time, but my friend failed to disclose that infact 'he' (emphasis) had already used illegal softwares to unlock this phone, I saw the AT&T sim, relevant paperwork and just made the payment, now when I have updated my firmware it comes as a surprise that my friend can be so careless and so dishonest, how can he sell something so pure and so beautiful to a law abiding citizen as me in such a state! I honestly had no idea what I was getting into, and .. umm if you can just lie down I'll give your feet a massage while you listen to my super ultra true story .. right so where was I?
Sounds like you're an idiot
Sounds like you're an idiot when it comes to choosing "friends."

Hence the " "'s " around "friends." He thinks he's witty.
Go look up the word
Go look up the word 'sarcasm' in the dictionary .. you are allowed to use google.
And also, 'imbecile' while you are at it.
*dry wit warning, call for the tin foil hats!!*
If unlocked with
If unlocked with iPhoneSimFree unlocking stays but jailbrake is broken and needs new activation with AT&T SIM. iPhoneSimFree will be providing unlock / un-brick for those who installed 1.1.1 on unlocked iphone and got bricked in process of doing so. However, if you want stay away from AT&T and use third party applications you should still stay away from 1.1.1.

I wouldn't count on the Mac
I wouldn't count on the Mac Genuises being the "2 trick ponies" you might expect.
If you hacked your phone and
If you hacked your phone and get turned away for service at the GB, you get what you deserve. They can't be expected to resolve issues with unknown 3rd party software. They won't even look at Windows!
Watch. People will sue claiming that they didn't realize that turning their iPhone into a Gameboy was the wrong thing to do. The thing is already an internet device, a cell phone and an iPod, among other things. If you weren't happy with the features, you shouldn't have bought it.
Word. Can't the Apple
Word.
Can't the Apple fanclub go a week without crying about something?
Apple: "iPhone price cut!"
Apple early adopters: "Waaah! Technology that gets cheaper as it ages? Waah! We paid for a social status that only lasted for a few months? Waah!"
Apple: "Ringtones available!"
Apple geeks: "Waah! We paid $600 for a $400 phone and now we gotta PAY for other stuff? Waah!"
Apple: "iPhone is now available for Europe!"
Apple babies: "Waah! No 3G? No 16 gb? It's been 3 month's for Chris' sake. We want it NOW! Waah!"
Apple: "Violate your contract terms and your phone may be disabled."
Apple losers: "Waah! Contracts are for sissies. Waah!"
I can't wait until SOMEBODY
I can't wait until SOMEBODY makes "the new hot phone" so all the whiny fad chasers will go away. iPhone owners have been the biggest whiners on the internet since before it was even announced!
12/06: Waaa! We know you're working on a phone! Put it out already!
01/16/07: Waaa! We have to wait until June!
06/01/07: Waaa! We have to wait until June 29.
06/29/07: Waaa! The store won't sell them until 6pm! We have to wait in line!
07/02/07: Waaa! They didn't sell out! We waited in line for nothing!
07/03/07: Waaa! There's no way to by music through the phone! No ringtones for sale!
Today: Waaa! All the updates are just ways for me to spend more money at Apple!!
anyone with AnySIM want to
anyone with AnySIM want to dial *#06# and see if it is a different IEMI number than on the back of your phone?
My IMEI matches up. I think
My IMEI matches up. I think what happens is that during the upgrade, the flasher says "Huh, this baseband firmware doesn't match checksum, so I'm going to blow away the IMEI so that when $dumbass takes this handset to the Apple Store, they know he unlocked it."
"First off, Apple changed
"First off, Apple changed the IMEI on your iPhone to a special one that identifies your phone was unlocked by third party software."
According to Wikipedia: "the IMEI number is used by the GSM network to identify valid devices and therefore can be used to stop a stolen phone from accessing the network."
According to Arstechnica: "Sources at Apple are telling us that the inability to activate the iPhone is their definition of 'bricking.'"
According to Arstechnica: "Sources familiar with the matter have told Ars that the company did not decide to cause such irreparable damage to the iPhone intentionally, however, and Apple's statement appears to confirm this as well."
---
Things don't appear to line up here. How is changing the IMEI number for an unlocked iPhone to a specific, blacklisted IMEI number not an intentional act of damage to the product? And how is an intentional act of damage to the product legal? I smell another class-action in Apple's future.
It seems that Apple
It seems that Apple intentionally charges IMEI code to one that doesn't create right check sum and therefore service providers decline any request from the phone. In any case, I have hard time believing that this illegal SIM code is accidently created during firmware update. I don't think the IMEI that bricked iPhone uses is actually black listed and submitted to GSM Associations IMEI DB since that would against the GSM Associations regulations (unit must be stolen or lost in order it to be submitted to IMEI DB). Anyway, if Apple is intentionally creating IMEI code that is denied access due to check sum error then they are at least bending if not breaking the GSM Associations rules. If this is indeed intentional this is violation of consumer laws at least in many European countries (don't know about the States).
If this is indeed
As the phone is not for sale thru official channels, this argument is not valid at all.
And while SIM unlocking by law is allowed, there is no law that states that the manufacturer will need to ensure that the hack will not be negatively impacted by any update of the software.
Hey, I _did_ need the louder
Hey, I _did_ need the louder speakerphone, it was quiet as could be! Luckily my refurb iPhone purchase is on it's way...
I have a question, I'm
I have a question, I'm getting an
iPhone in a week or so...
And I want to get my iPhone opened (or w/e the terminology is)so that I can change the background and add Apps. Not to change the network.... So will it still break for any kind of hacking or is it for those who want to unlock their iPhone's only?
yep very simple stay on
