3G iPhone fondled by Engadget's BFF
Fri, 04/25/2008 - 17:09 — Chauncey Dupree
Engadget has a friend who has a friend who got to play with the new 3G iPhone. They have some specs. All seem legit to us:
- The first thing people will notice: the 2nd gen iPhone will be about the same size and shape as the first gen.
- It will, of course, have 3G. And proper GPS!
- The most noticeable physical difference is back of the phone is no longer metal -- the whole thing is glossy black, from top to bottom. The volume buttons are now chrome.
- Because it's got a little less metal to deal with, it doesn't have quite as many angular edges. The battery is (still) not removable.
- The phone itself will be slightly thicker than the first gen device.
- The headphone jack will no longer be recessed, and will finally be flush with the body.
- The device itself uses roughly the same size and resolution screen as the first generation product.
- No solid word on battery life or storage capacity.
btw, we know that is the black case from Honk Kong and not the new iPhone...

Plastic and higher thickness sucks!
3G iPhone
Photoshopped. I have seen many Photoshopped images and I can tell because of some of the pixels.

Oh can you now? You're full of it.
It is in fact a real photo, but not of the new Jesus phone. It's just a plastic third party case made in China.

Photoshopped indeed.

this same picture was on macrumors like 3 weeks ago and it was admitted to be fake
Jobs does disinformation
I think Steve Jobs has learned the 'intelligence' tactic of disinformation, i.e. spreading rumors that counter attack rumors that were right on target like a flip smaller iPhone more likely for ladies and people who are not so internet centric, a regular iPhone replacing current model and the new bigger iTouch/Newton.
I think Jobs has a problem though - he wants to establish this as the whole new handheld computer platform, the GUI PC revolution all over again this time in your hand and pocket and with no Macroshaft in sight. So he should rename all these handhelds to something like the iTouch. However, the iPhone is a brand name with unbelievable global recongnition and that is an asset no one is crazy enough to throw away. The iPod too. Will he had a 3rd name - iTouch for example?!
Engadget has a source who
Engadget has a source who supposedly got their hands on the new iPhone. TUAW, being Engadgets sister site, also reported it. Engadget received no pictures of the new device from their source, they just used the old glossy photoshopped pic as an example of what it could look like.
plastic... that just goes
plastic... that just goes against the designs they have been coming out with lately
Black glossy plastic?!

It doesnt say plastic. I take it the picture is fake but might be like it.
I guess the back not being metall referrs to the look (not silver metal anymore, which makes sense since this design was used befor -> they need a new one)
Making it black glossy seems like a good idea to me but there are two mayor reasons why apple wont use plastic
1 Not solid enough for a premium phone, drop it once and its done
2 Not high-quality enough for an apple product
i cant recall any late apple products using plastic... some of the early ipods maybe?
Are the Macbooks plastic?? idk
pros sure arent... they wont use plastic for the most anticipated phone of the year guys =D
3giphone
does the plastic have something to do with reducing antenna impedance?
"Honk Kong"? WTF?!!
