well this is what 'variety' is for... everyone finds something more interesting than the other. As for me, from what I've seen so far from Droid's short clips online I can't see that "WOW" feature that'll make me jump onto google's boat.
While the load speed is definitely slower on the droid, it's the poor text render that spoils it for me. There's no way I can read text that small, no matter how many extra pixels it has. The double-click zooming better be good.
That twitter app just posts to twitter and facebook and runs in the background.
It launches if you pull down the status bar. I had the trial installed. It was pretty cool.
The Droid screen may be taller, but notice that it is also not as wide as the iPhone. You're definitely going to need to go in landscape mode if you're going to read any text on that. And while the Droid's quick scrolling is an impressive demonstration of smoothness, it is waaaaaay too fast to be useful. I prefer the iPhone's more controlled scrolling.
the scrolling looks fantastic. The iPhone scrolling can be maddening sometimes how slow it is if the page is long...and since there is no "end" by clicking the bottom like when you click the top it can really be frustrating.
well, there is an application called quick scroll or something like that (jailbreak i believe) that when you triple tap the screen you can scroll abnormally fast on the iphone. the one thing i would be worried about with the droid is scrolling so fast that i miss what i wanted to read or stuff. idk, to each man his own.
I have just run some numbers and calculated the screen sizes (in millimeters) of the Moto Droid vs iPhone:
Moto Droid (in Portrait orientation):
Width: 46.07 mm (calculated)
Height: 81.91 mm (calculated)
Screen ratio: 9:16 (published by Motorola)
Screen resolution: 480 x 854 pixels (published by Motorola)
Screen resolution density: 264 ppi (calculated)
iPhone 3GS (in Portrait orientation):
Width: 49.31 mm (calculated)
Height: 73.97 mm (calculated)
Screen ratio: 2:3 (published by Apple)
Screen resolution: 320 x 480 pixels (published by Apple)
Resolution density: 163 ppi (published by Apple)
Droid's resolution density is better than iPhone's. However, when considering the screen size that fits in the palm of one's hand, taking advantage of the better resolution with the smaller physical dimensions in the Portrait mode will result in the text so miniscule that few will be able to read it. To be able to read the text, one would have to increase the font size, which, provided the smaller physical dimensions of the Droid screen's width (in Portrait), will result in less text fitting in one line across the screen. Therefore, there will be more text wrapping over to the next line on Droid vs iPhone.
In the Landscape mode, the Droid's screen is almost 8 mm wider than iPhone's, and if the browser can render the web pages correctly by taking advantage of this screen ratio (16:9), then more text will fit in one line across Droid's screen than that of iPhone's; however, this will come at the expense of fewer lines visible on the screen due to Droid screen's height being smaller in Landscape than iPhone's. Therefore, you may have to scroll down more when reading a long web page on the Droid than you would have on the iPhone.
My conclusion is that Moto Droid will be much better for viewing 16:9 videos, but not as good for web browsing wherein a lot of screen space will be wasted due to the fact that Droid screen's physical width (when in Portrait) is smaller than that of iPhone.
Landscape is worth it, the pages are nearly "PC" realistic, many regular sites require no left/right scrolling.
And fast scrolling is great, since it is speed sensitive to how you do it. A nice zip and it will keep going to the page end if you let it. A smaller flick, and it's just like the iPhone.
Wider views in web pages mean fewer lines needed in paragraphs, and to me the text looks sharper too.
It does have it's down sides, and is not as easy for a novice, but after a recent theft of one of our family iPhones, and a "tough luck". AT&T won't even block it from getting reactivated by the perp. It would cost them a new customer.
For a student on the go, I got that 3GS even after I found out that AT&T didn't have some kind of no nonsense loss/theft/damage insurance on there hugely expensive phone. Now I realize my instinct was right-is a necessity. And profiting from such criminal misfortune? Bad form, AT&T/Apple.
I know none of the providers care about any of us, but I'm not subsudizing any more thieves--on the street or at AT&T. After writing the last paragraph, I paid my early termination fee and moved to the Droid. They gave me insurance and ASSURANCE that if it gets stolen, it will be blacklisted. Thanks, Verizon!
Fast scroll is a silly comment. Its too fast to be useful. Its a negative. It doesn't indicate the Droid is faster or better, simply that its UI is not tuned well to a useable speed.
Scrolling speed depends on how fast you flick your finger. Seems superior to iPhone in that regard. It allows you to control the speed for however you need it to be controlled.
I could care less. Soon there will be dozens of Android phones fragmenting that market so I doubt this will really help Motorola too much. To me it's a geek phone. Just read some of Gizmode blog comments. The geeks hate everything Apple and bash it all day long. Anything Apple gets attacked and belittled on Gizmodo. The Droid is this weeks flavor. It was the Palm Pre last week. They barely mention it anymore. Yawn!
We can be sure that the Apple iPhone team is not idly sitting on their hands doing nothing. The iPhone has a very clear identity.
true iPhone has a very clear identity, but it and it's identity is useless to me if they're not on the network I'm stuck on....The droid is the closest thing to a "usable" smartphone other than the iPhone, so it works for me. BUT...the minute VZW gets the iPhone I'll switch.
That app is qTweeter, jailbroke only app that lets you post updates to twitter/facebook by sliding down on the status bar on any screen (home screen or in another app).
Though the Droid looks promising I will stay with the iPhone.
Scrolling is faster but it still nerves as there's no possibility to jump at the end of the page.
The iphone loads internet site much faster.
Some guys here say the jailbroken iphone are faster that's not true, but they do allow for real multitasking, though battery drains faster.
I will wait for the next iPhone it will have many new features others won't have.
I would suggest that a simple scroll speed comparison is not a particularly helpful assessment of the overall phone's abilities.
Personally I would prefer the slower scrolling of the iPhone as I can still understand where I am within the page but I can see others may enjoy a faster speed.

What was that???
What was that at the end on the iPhone? What is this app jumping out of nowhere???
We have found the iPhone
We have found the iPhone killer. This Droid is awesome! Plus it will be on a real cell network, with the support of Google behind it.
But the best is that I no longer have to hope and wait for Verizon to get the iPhone.
At first I was inclined not to believe iDoesn;t ads, but the more I see the more I will be running out to get a Droid.

Also, even though Droid is advertised with higher resolution, at least from the video the picture quality seems way better on iphone, IMO
