Motorola Droid reviewed by BGR

BoyGenius has the Droid review up and fankly, they're pretty smitten with it.   It looks a little "square" to us but we have to admit, that 850x480 screen  has us a bit green. The "not on AT&T's network" part also sounds nice except for international travel.

They say the Android 2.0 "Eclair" software is also much more refined.  It is interesting to note that this is the first Android-based phone with the ARM Cortex A8-class chips that the iPhone and Pre have.  In fact, it has the same TI OMAP 3430 CPU as the Pre.

Interestingly, they mention that this won't compete with the iPhone:

The Droid isn’t an iPhone competitor because nothing at this point in time is an iPhone competitor besides the new iPhone. And things don’t have to be right now. Everyone can eat. So will the Motorola Droid be successful? Absolutely, we think. It will eat in to BlackBerry sales, Windows Mobile sales, and positively murder any lingering Palm Pre sales. It’s that good. Did you notice how Verizon still hasn’t announced the BlackBerry Storm2?

I like the quick response to touches... but it looks ugly... bottom line, competition is good for us!

it looks amazing to me, the phone, the OS, everything
anybody knows when the GSM version comes out??

I don't really like the OS much. It doesn't seem intuitive.

This makes me even more excited to see what Apple comes up with for their 4th gen iPhone (and most likely my first iPhone).

good to hear you are finally getting an iPhone in June/July 2010 ;)

I'm sure the hardware is just fine (albeit ugly), but the OS is what's going to hold it back from beating the iPhone. Android is not as easy to use for the average person. It's the Linux of smartphones, which means it's great for geeks. That's about it.

There will be many phones with the Android OS and the Droid will have way more Apps in it's 1st year then the IPhone had in it's first year. The Android OS will cruise past Apple in the # of apps for this phone compared to the IPhone.

Brilliant observation! Of course there will be because there wasn't thousands of mobile app developers already in place when the iPhone launched. If you start with the hundred thousand that are already available on iPhone rebuilt for Droid, you win.

Test Drive Google Android on Microsoft Windows Xp, Vista and 7. http://www.zjtechlive.com/test-drive-google-android-os-on-microsoft-wind...

It may not have AT&T but is has the ball-and-chain that is Motorola! The last two Motorola phones I've had have been real POSs. I've sworn off Motorola and will never buy one again!

It is slightly thicker than the iPhone but has the thinnest touch QWERTY slider available on the market. It seems to be the fastest Android device and it?s no surprise because it has an ARM Cortex A8 TI OMAP3430 processor. The display, according to the FCC information, is a massive high 854×480 pixels resolution, which is 2-3 times the space as the Palm Pre, Android G1 or iPhone.

thanks dude for a kool review.
