Obvious troll is obvious.

Bullshit

bwahahaha!! hilarious, this cook is out of his mind
i actually have pitty for him

Obvious troll is obvious. He's mixing standards and platforms. Presumably Calacanis' stance means more grandstanding rather than gracefully talking things over.

Linkbait, as he himself says.

This guy is a complete and udder retard! If he doesn't like the iphone then buy a Win Mobile and be happy.

If this guy doesn't like the iPhone, he should start his own hardware company and quit whining!

Anyone who makes a comment that "anyone who goes to the genius bar is a moron" is himself a moron.
Some of his arguments are valid but seriously, this guy is an apple hateboy.

Definitely. This guy is such a self righteous toolbag. A lot of the people who go to the Genius bar are "noobs" but what an ignorant thing to say. Some people HAVE to go to the Genius bar to get warranty work done...what an idiot. "just reformat your HD" that seriously made me laugh, because I guess reformatting can fix a defective disc drive etc.

What an asshole. His entire rant was 100 percent ignorant. He's also quite a douche to generalize ALL Apple fanboys like that. Not every Apple fanboy blindly follows like he implies. I'm an admitted Apple fanboy that would also like to see an open platform from Apple. But they make great products and do business a certain way, throwing temper tantrums acting like a 12 year old won't change that.

Actually the definition of a fanboy is one who blindly follows and supports something without question. If you don't think Appld can do no wrong, you're not an Apple fanboy.

I didn't know there was a definition... I'd like to see the reference that makes fact of this objective term.

Let's not go out of our way to popularize trolls, please. They get too much attention without help.

Is Microsoft open... why every company has windows server running.

Excuse me but your Windows is a closed platform too and Microsoft doesn't even have a phone to rip on - which would be closed too because they copy everything Apple does. LOL!

He's not touting Windows, he's touting the "Open Internet" Thanks to the "Open Internet" there is plenty of Malware to go around.

The iPhone is not the only device that connects to the internet that isn't open, it is just the most popular even though it is the youngest of them all.

Fantastic, Twitter is open, (most of Twitter is full of Pornbots)

I love that these people feel that calling everyone Fanboys seems to make them feel superior and hey, 1989 called, they want their haircut back.

BTW: couldn't hear "Insights from Tyler" because this guy decided it is too hard to mic everyone, looks high budget to me, and is Tyler in a plastic bubble?

I'd also like to point out to this guy that you CAN jailbreak the iPhone without too much trouble at all, and easily restore it for those times that you might need to have warranty work done.

The iPhone is so thin and light because they do not have a user removable battery. If it were removable, the phone would be much larger, do I care if the battery is user removable? No, I'm certified to repair them.

This guy doesn't understands anything. Open platform is good for things like web development, but when it comes to applications or OS open isn't that great. I don't want to give my iPhone app which i developed for almost 6 months free.

but apparently you do want to have the app that you've been working on for 6 months get stuck in approval hell for weeks only to eventually get an email saying that it duplicates functionality.

Still the easiest platform by far to write, publish, and sell software for. And with over 50,000 titles in about a year, doesn't look like that closed platform is too bad after all, especially considering you can make create a pretty lucrative enterprise with next to no capital. I think Jason is mad because he didn't think of it first, or someone beat him to the punch with iFart.

I guess every time this guy has a program crash on him, he just decides to reformat his hard drive every time. Good game donkey. Anyone who listens to this guy is a moron.

Keep enjoying your Mac Tyler you donk.

Jason I got an idea go to Windows and see how that closed platform works for you. While your at it pick up a brown Zune and a Win Mo phone.

Oh yea, and you'll probably be reformatting your hard drive everyday on Windows based upon your great tech recommendations Jason. Maybe we'll see you at the Guru Bar.

Points:

The Genius bar for me is a place to bring broken hardware. Software I can usually fix. The people behind the genius bar usually aren't geniuses.

If I wanted open, I would buy a G1.

Joe Sixpack and Blondie McBlondkins can't figure out the G1, so they buy a iPhone. If you want crazy open platforms, then buy a fucking G1.

The problem is no other company is remotely close to offering the UI and seamless interface of the iPhone.
Why?
Because they are open platforms that have no consistency.

Quit bitching and use Andriod if the iPhone pisses you off so much.

Unfortunately 9to5mac is where they hang out

Look, we have ANOTHER troll.

his argument sounds an awful lot like jailbraking an iphone...why doesn't he just do that?

His argument sounds an awful lot like jailbreaking...why doesn't he just jailbreak his iphone?

I think many of you are assuming some things:

- He never says Microsoft is an open platform
- When he says open platform he doesn't mean opensource, he is talking about the regulation to let an app go into de App Store
- In that aspect Windows is an open platform
- Again he's not comparing to Microsoft, Windows Mobile or anything like that.
- He does say that apple does great products

Now, with that clear I think his attitude sucks, that's no the way to say anything. He also says a lot of absurd things like the genius bar one, actualy it's a pretty good service.

I do understand why Apple is so closed and meticulous about the software in the App Store, but they also take absurd decitions of software they don't let in the there. I think they should be strict with dangerous or malicious software, but that's it.

So why are you using Mac OS X looking "More Info" buttons on the Weblogs, Inc website? Looks like all that open platform has left you the most creative person in the room......

This guy is a complete tosser!
Man, if you don't like apple, apple products, or the way apple does things, f*ck right off and get a zune or something.

Ummmm... I actually don't care. One thing I hated about Windows was the "anything and everything" options. So, it was almost like they tyranny of too much choice. It took FOREVER to determine what tool was "supposedly" the best. I don't mind windows and Linux, and I understand why people use those platforms, but that's not why I use a Mac.

In the end, though, ranting idiots make themselves look and sound like idiots.

As a total apple fan boy - I completely agree with him. Hey Jason - Wanna help me sell out further and buy my website?!?

Seriously his point is valid. But I just believe that it's possible to be fan boy and also think that Apple tries to control too much. He's right that the iphone should be more open. You know when it first came out I was PISSED that you couldn't manually manage your music like you could on an ipod. Of course now they've fix that, but it was an attempt to control what we did with the devices that we spent hundreds of dollars on.

I also agree that the tablet will be iphone os - because in the long run it makes apple more money. And that's what they're all about now. The Apple II made in the garage was about bringing home computers to the masses. But how Jobs has grown up from that.

Thank you for some reason here.

I'm on my fifth Mac, having bought my first one 14 years ago. But, while I think that the iPhone has the best user experience of any phone out there, I'm unlikely to buy one because I know that, unlike the Mac, my iPhone would be controlled by Apple, not by me.

I first came to the Apple brand after spending days fiddling with system settings on Windows 3.1. Basically, the Mac made things which were difficult easy. The idea was that the technology should not get in the way.

Ironically, the iPhone makes things that are easy on other platforms impossible. This is of no advantage to the end user, but gives Apple an advantage in that it can make a lot of money out by being the only retailer of third-party apps.

It is also advantaged because, as the only retailer, it can effectively kill any apps which it thinks might compete with its own offerings. It is using its position to stifle competition, which is a complaint usually made of Microsoft, albeit on a different scale.

Is it so wrong to criticise Apple for going against the ethos that has made the Mac such a strong platform? If you think the answer is 'yes', then that says more about you than about Apple.

Jason take that thing that hang's in front of you out of your poopy hole and everything should get back to normal for you
