Buy.com is offering an official Apple Unlocked iPhones now for $799.   This is an official Apple iPhone which isn't jailbroken.  You can do iTunes updates and not have to worry about locking your iPhone up again.  Apple warranty also applies.

Strangely, they say that the iPhones may be from other countries so they might have instructions in languages besides English.

This looks like another inventory clearing measure by Apple in anticipation of upcoming new iPhone models in June.

If you've wanted a Tmobile iPhone without jailbreaking hassles/issues, now is your chance.  Or perhaps you travel a lot and want to be able to change SIM cards as you go?  Check the video on Buy.com's website.

The site states:

The Never Locked iPhone!!

Apple iPhones have typically been locked to only use on the AT&T network, so they are not capable of being used on other GSM carriers such as T-Mobile or for overseas travel.

Hackers were able to break the software to use the iPhone on carriers other than AT&T, but any connection to iTunes or any software updates provided by Apple lock the iPhone and render it useless.

Now the iPhone is available without any locks or restrictions to any GSM carrier.

Also, the Apple guarantee is valid for all never-locked iPhones.

You are now able to:

  • Connect the iPhone to iTunes
  • Update the iPhone software when the updates are available from Apple
  • Purchase apps from the iTunes library or the Apps store on the iPhone
  • Use AT&T or T-Mobile in the USA Or one of the 30 different GSM carriers all over the US.
  • Use with any GSM carriers globally Introducing iPhone 3G. With fast 3G wireless technology, GPS mapping, support for enterprise features like Microsoft Exchange, and the new App Store, iPhone 3G puts even more features at your fingertips. And like the original iPhone, it combines three products in one a revolutionary phone, a widescreen iPod, and a breakthrough Internet device with rich HTML email and a desktop-class web browser. iPhone 3G. It redefines what a mobile phone can do again.

Bit expensive...

Thats great because that shows the people what an iphone really costs...most of the stupids out there still think an iphone costs 199$...and nobody actually needs a contract...

My favorite is when people get a free phone, promptly break it, and then get upset when they have to pay $200+ for a replacement through their carrier. It's clear that customers don't understand that cell phones are heavily subsidized by the carrier.

My company does a ton of business with one particular carrier, so I have all the "replacement prices" here:

The very cheapest cell phone, the bottom of the barrel flip phone, costs $200. These are the phones that are often "free"... but if you need a replacement, it'll cost you $200.

In the so-called "smart phone" category, the cheapest available is the Palm Centro, for $389, and they go way up from there, well over $800.

And remember, these replacement phones are still locked to the carrier.

You pulled those numbers out of your ass.

You can buy the cheapest phones contract free at retail prices for what would be in the US the equivalent of $20. There's not a hell of a lot in them.

Even the N95 costs only $330 sim free. The iphone is *not* worth double that. Even the Blackberry Bold works out at only $480.

And all of the above are *not* locked to the carrier.

If those figures you quoted are even remotely close to what you're being charged then change supplier, because they're taking you for a chump.

Ec101 - value is what people will pay, and pay double than that for the N95 they do.

So the "List Price" is 799.99 but Buy.com's price after the discount [NOT] is 799.99 too! Wow what a discount!!

I hope it never breaks, because Apple isn't going to service it beings these phones are not intended for the US market.

Not worth it!

Apple will support it, watch the video.

I thought TMobile and AT&T used different 3G frequencies, which meant the iPhone couldn't use 3G on TMobile's network.

why cant the dev team take that software and put it on another phone so that it isnt locked??

because the 2.30.03 is still unlockable via software

Because the locked ones are different. You can't just transfer the FW over it would just brick the phone. The FW is specific to each phone.

The Dev team (the ones that have the soft unlock for the 3G etc) have a great video presentation around this topic.

I'd like an iPhone that:

- Can be used as an AT&T GoPhone, prepaid minutes
- Disables 3G for data and uses only WiFi, to avoid data charges

One can dream!

I tried 5 different sites to unlock my iphone, but they all didn't work.

I used http://www.iPhoneUnlock3G.Net

The site worked, and now my iphone can be used on any network. It was simple and easy.
