Brightkite for iPhone opens up interesting possibilities
Kind of like Loopd on steroids, Brightkite is a very location aware, very open social networking service. IF you don't mind others knowing a lot about you, you can meet like-minded people in the area around where you are who might have similar interests...or serial killers with iPhones.

They've posted a preview video, that's it.
Also the website boldly states 'available on any phone'. Really? Even my little soapbar nokia I use for tethering? On my friends' 3310? Seems a little ambitious to me..
It's the same lameness that loopt tried. You have to spend a fortune on SMS to use it... no thanks. It uses the (free) data or no sale.
"When using Brightkite's text messaging functionality, standard rates apply."
"Brightkite's text messaging functionality is available on AT&T, Sprint, Nextel, T-Mobile®, Boost, Alltel and Suncom."
So, not *any* phone then.
If your phone has a web browser, you can use Brightkite without using SMS. If your data plan is free, you're all set.
