Blackberry Desktop Manager for Mac coming soon

Share

Somehow we don't think this is going to get a lot of use.  However, there are those Macintosh users who work where there can only be Blackberries or  who love physical keyboards.  To those people (it is plural right?), Blackberry will have some new software for you this summer.  Sign up to get notified when you can start downloading.

Here are some key features the initial release will include:

  • Sync your iTunes® playlists, calendars, contacts, notes and tasks
  • Add/Remove applications
  • Update your device when new software becomes available
  • Backup and restore your device data with such features like automatically scheduled backups and optional encryption (security is #1 as always…)
  • Manage multiple devices

And it will support Mac® OS 10.5.5 and above.

One for Obama?

Wooopie!

Um, not sure what the anti-BlackBerry attitude is about. I chose the BB Bold over the iPhone because I do like physical keyboards and I don't like Apple claiming to be the arbiter of what software I can and can't install on MY device. I know several other Mac users who have made the same choice for the same reasons...it's not nearly as uncommon as you might think.

I agree with you, although I'm an iPhone user!

I agree. I have macs since 84. Love them. But iPhone is just crap. Maybe version 4 o 5 will be good. But blackberry is just better.

I'd rather have a Blackberry on any network than an iPhone on AT&T.

why is there so much dead space in the header and footer? Why is the "device options" button hidden in the reflection? why is the iTunes look-n-feel so poorly implemented?

And that's all you'll get if you drink the Kool-Aid for the Jesus Phone.

I really don't like all of this pro-iPhone rhetoric around here lately. I understand that this is an Apple rumors blog, but the fact is this: not every user of this site, or every Mac user with a cell phone, has or wants an iPhone. Some are stuck with BlackBerrys for work related purposes, others just like it over the iPhone. Really, all this nonsense, "(it is plural, right?)", needs to stop; you just sound like an idiot who can't see others way of life.

At the end of the day, this thing doesn't need to have the best user interface in the world. Let's be frank, some of Apple's UIs have been, at best, underwhelming. To make remarks regarding the UI for an application that syncs data is kind of pointless. I would understand if this was a $100 piece of software, but it is a free sync solution that Mac Blackberry users have been waiting for for years.

In any matter, I am quite pleased that they have gotten around to developing a native client. I hope to be using it once it comes out in September.

waaaaaaaaaah

atfu. seriously. no one wants to read that 800 word essay.

I prefer the blackberry 8900 over the iPhone because of t-mobile. T-mobile's customer service alone is enough reason to avoid ATT and the iPhone completely. T-mobile, get the iPhone and we may talk.

You just have a thing for Catherine Zeta-Jones ;)

I've never even needed to deal with AT&T's customer service, Only to purchase the phone and THAT wasn't even needed.

T-Mobile doesn't even have 3G speeds in my very large metropolitan area.

Hell yes...  She's a total iBabe.  If she came to my door, i'd be like that guy talking about his wife in the 3rd person while she was sitting right there.

I for one am ecstatic about this. Not because I love BB but because AT&T is unavailable in my area so I got a Storm on Verizon and syncing it with my mac is a big pain in the A.

It's about time this came out. I can't believe that it has taken this long - kind of insulting to make users if you think about it. I for one use an iPhone but have to use a BB at work as per company policy but it sure is frustrating having to get some IT person to update the phone for you.

You mean RIM is finally acknowledging mac users might want to properly sync their blackberries with their computers? Too bad the geniuses didn't figure it out a year or two ago when they were still relevant.

One of the main reasons I switched to an iphone was that I was sick of RIM's total lack of support for OSX. I was tired of fumbling with crappy third party apps/hacks to do the simplest of sync tasks, not to mention that RIM moves at a glacial pace when it comes to releasing software updates/bug fixes.

At least RIM’s updates are free and never security related …. or intended to block others from using their glorious Itunes that also limits the ways of synching my Ipod touch that I have paid for on my on multiple computers.
Yes I have a MacBook Pro and a second gen Ipod but for business phone and email I prefer a BB.

This is a welcomed update for those of us stranded with a Blackberry on Verizon. Overdue, yes, but welcome nonetheless. While you're waiting, check out Google Sync, it works really well with the Blackberry, if you're a heavy gmail/Google user.
