Will The Beatles be part of the September 9th event?
So speculation this morning is buzzing as claims are made Apple plans a special music-focused event on September 9 - and yet again there is some some small coincidences to suggest The Beatles could be part of this all-new music product launch. (Yes, this rumour yet again)
We know to expect new iPods, with the iPod touch and nano possibly equipped with cameras. We also know to expect a new and more socially-connected iteration of iTunes; we hope for some news on the Apple TV and you’ll note tablet speculation has gone down a notch or two on the news that product won’t be showing its face next week.
But the Beatles may well be: think this through. Apple’s event is on September 9 - we’re not sure where at this point, but we do note the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts is open for business on that date - and, mysteriously for Apple’s most beloved local hall - has nothing scheduled for September 9.
Did we mention the Beatles? Well, apart from remaining digital music’s chief stand-outs and presumably the most file-shared musical ouvre on the planet, the band has a game coming out next month. Rock Band. When’s it ship? September 9. Is there a connection forming here?
We’ve buzzed up the increasingly positive relationship between Apple and the games developers before. And we can’t imagine Apple Corps. and Apple Inc. aren’t on speaking terms - after all a huge sum of money changed hands in settlement of the trademark battle between the two firms.
Also Paul McCartney is an iPod user, with Macs in his recording studio, and indeed gave all the crew who joined him on a US tour a year or two back iPods.
So over to the Beatles “people”: “Apple Corps Ltd. and EMI Music have announced the release of the original Beatles catalog, which has been digitally re-mastered for the first time, for worldwide CD release on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 (9-9-09), the same date as the release of 'The Beatles: Rock Band' video game.
Note the date - is Rock Band coming to iPhone? Or are we seeing the first sight of Apple’s much talked about “Cocktail” project? Back to the loveable Liverpool mop-tops, “Each of the CDs is packaged with replicated original UK album art, including expanded booklets containing original and newly written liner notes and rare photos.
“For a limited period, each CD will also be embedded with a brief documentary film about the album. On the same date, two new Beatles boxed CD collections will also be released.”
“Within each CD's new packaging, booklets include detailed historical notes along with informative recording notes. With the exception of the 'Past Masters' set, newly produced mini-documentaries on the making of each album, directed by Bob Smeaton, are included as QuickTime files on each album. The documentaries contain archival footage, rare photographs and never-before-heard studio chat from The Beatles, offering a unique and very personal insight into the studio atmosphere.”
So, we’re asking - are the Beatles going to join Apple for what we all hope will be a Steve Jobs-led product introduction? Will he be flanked on stage by McCartney and Ringo Starr? We know this would be a high point for Jobs, a great way to return to the keynote fold, a career affirming moment even if he doesn’t.
Or the dates could be a coincidence.
All eyes will be watching with great interest in the coming week.

Hmm. Several months ago I read in my audio magazines that the Beatles were planning to release their newly remastered complete song collection on 9/9/09. So I would expect this to be a HUGE music-only day from apple. Maybe they have exclusive online distribution for a few weeks or months?
Definitely won't be muddying up the music day with a tablet. Unless the tablet is aimed at the multimedia control market.
My 1.5 cents worth.
Jim
Paul M. did say that the Beatles would be on iTunes eventually. I think it was about this time last year, or maybe as long ago as early 2008. Geez, how many songs will they sell? I'll probably end up buying whole albums myself - again.
What it has to do with Art.Lebedev?
revolution number 9…just saying…
Who cares?
The Beatles missed the boat on iTunes. Who gives a crap if they are on their now? Beatles fans have either ripped their CDs to iTunes or pirated the music from some other source.
maybe the Beatles will join U2 in the Blackberry revolution! LOL!
Yeah, but these re-masters KILL the original CD releases, sound-wise. They could release them any time they want and STILL sell a boat-load. Why bother releasing the crappy mid-80's mastered CD version on iTunes? It took the Abbey Road team 4 YEARS to do these remasters... I'm sure it will be well worth it. The Beatles have their OWN boat, er, submarine! They'll NEVER miss it.
iTunes will let the bored guy on the train download "Yellow Submarine." They will now catch the lazy market, and that is a bunch of people!
BTW, the Beatles were 4 guys who could all sing, write songs and play. U2 is several guys who could never write songs, have one pretentious singer & a pretentious guitar player. I once heard "Desire" and that "hey, that's a good song." Of course, they didn't write it.
Lots of people are saying that nobody remembers who the Beatles were and there wouldn't be much interest. Those that grew up with them and do remember the Beatles already have their vinyls, CDs and compilation collections.
"When's it ship?" ...
When's? Really?
You failed grade 8 English class didn't you?
"When's" is not even a real word.
"When's" can be a contraction for "when does" or "when is" depending on context.
-
"When does it ship?" -- Sounds acceptable to me.
-
Didn't they go over contractions in your school?
By your logic, "it's" could be a contraction for either "It is" or "It does"Your educational system has let you down again!
"When's" is tolerable as a spoken contraction because we all speak so quickly that we drop consonants all over the place. As a written contraction, it is not even remotely correct.
If we all wrote the way we spoke, all of the writings of human history would just be an anguished scrawl of random symbols!
As an English teacher with thirty-three years experience, I must say "when's" is a perfectly acceptable contraction. In spoken English, it is common. In written English, all contractions are frowned upon, but "when's" would be no worse than "it's."

U R rite!

McCartney is on a limited tour right now. Will he be near California on the 9th? If so, then you have your answer. I know Ringo doesn't have anything else to do that day.

This is why the Beatles didn't go on iTunes originally. The original online song was less than what you got on CD, when most of their fans already had the music.
They had to find a way to make it worth buying. This all sounds very plausible to me because it can't be great if it's tossed together quickly, and I also remember the Beatles reaching an agreement with Apple last year. It would take about that long to finalize, and it makes perfect sense with all the other stuff they have going on to have an iTunes tie-in, at long last.
My guess is that the sound quality will be so good and the new liner notes, etc... that it will be worth the purchase price, even if you already own it. This is a bit like Anthology, but instead, I think it may take the place of the old masters, if they stayed true enough to the original, just going for better sound reproductions where necessary.
just because beatles rockband and the re-release of their albums is on the same day as apple's media event does not mean anything is tied together. its a coincidence! its like saying if U2 did a rockband game and release it the same day as an apple event! its all speculation! but then again speculation is what makes these keynotes so interesting!
I recall a year or two ago, in regards to the Beatles being on iTunes, someone said the delay was due to the fact that the catalog was being remastered, and it would be on iTunes after that. So now that the remastered catalog is coming out on the 9th, I would bet there would be some announcment of the Beatles on iTunes.
Baby said we're traveling on the one after 909.
Number Nine / Number Nine / Number Nine ...
Number Nine / Number Nine / Number Nine ...
If the new Beatles releases are not on iTunes the same day that they are released on CD then the Beatles (meaning everybody who profits from the Beatles) will lose a butt load of money. I would say the the new releases will be on the internet within hours, if not minutes for some songs, of release.
