Microsoft’s Ballmer says iPhone will failFri, 09/26/2008 - 04:36 — Andy Space
You got to give him credit for optimism - Ballmer also thinks Nokia and Research In Motion will feel the crunch in the next five years, saying all three companies will suffer because they design their own proprietary hardware which they tie to their software. He reckons Windows Mobile is the ring to rule them all, or something (is that from the wrong movie?) Ballmer thinks the same strategy that helped Microsoft become the leader on the desktop will let it win out on smartphones. Long term, he said, the battle will be between the Symbian OS, mobile versions of Linux and Windows Mobile. We don't think so....but he's the boss of the world's largest software company, so he gets to say what he wants, we suppose - even when it flies in the face of the evidence. Take his next point - that Apple won't boost its slice of the PC market in the consumer or the enterprise space because it won't license its software to other PC manufacturers. We say that other than to point to endless surveys and oodles of analyst reports which show Apple to be expanding its slice of the PC market in both, erm, the enterprise and consumer markets, Ballmer has probably just offered Apple an alternative strategy should its continued market growth grind to a halt. Oh, but Ballmer's equivocal..."Apple's a good company, I won't take anything away from them, but they have a certain kind of strategy. They believe in putting the hardware and software together, they don't believe in letting other people make it." And it gets better, "I'm not saying there isn't a threat" from Apple, he said. But if Microsoft and its PC partners "do our jobs right, there's really no reason Apple should get any footprint in the enterprise." Oh yeah, Microsoft also committed to a five year strategy to "reinvent search" in its attempt to compete with Google. Sure... Via: Industry Standard

Ballmer, you bald, fat fool
MS better hope that it's big competition doesn't fail - where will they get all their ideas from - internal R&D? (lol)
Quote should read: "Microsoft's a big company, I won't buy anything from them, but they have a certain kind of strategy. They believe in stealing software from it's intellectual owners, they don't believe in letting other people profit from their own ideas."
Hey, Bigot!
Leave fat and bald out of the equation. His girth has nothing to do with his intellect, and hair loss is genetic (and also not related common sense). If, on the other hand, you want to call him a fool, be my guest, as I heartily agree! ; )
No bigot me, nosiree
Maybe his pate is not an issue, but his weight most certainly is. His size is most certainly the result of over-eating, or eating the wrong food. An individual that is unable to charge their own body with the correct amount of appropriate fuel surely shows a most basic lack of intelligence.
If you saw a guy standing at a gas station, pump in hand as diesel was overflowing from the tank of his petrol car, you would call him an idiot and would be unlikely to take any advice from him..... about anything.
Ballmer demonstrates his own dim-wittedness primarily by what he puts into his mouth as well as what spews out of it.
iPhone FAIL and Zune is
iPhone FAIL and Zune is better !
hahahahaaaaaa lol
He's at it again...
Does anyone remeber the interview with this bozo talking about the iPhone before it was released? He essentially said it would never get off the ground and flop totally... I'm glad he's not my financial advisor! What a dork...
Did you ever wonder....
If Bill Gates wakes up in the middle of the night wondering what he was thinking when he left the company in monkey boys hands ?
My small engineering company
My small engineering company dumped 15 Windows Mobile handsets and replaced them with iPhones this week.

LOL!!!
too funny!
I swear, every time this
I swear, every time this idiot opens his mouse he shoves his foot furthur down his throat. What an idiot. You know what Ballmer? I've said every Windows OS will fail within 6 months out the door, and it they all have. So who's doing their job right now?
That picture of Ballmer looks
That picture of Ballmer looks like he's holding a huge dick and getting ready to take it in his mouth.
What an idiot he is. Microsloth is only still around because they have more money than God. Every direction they take is the wrong one. Sooner or later that's going to catch up with them.
No, it actually doesn't look

Ah, you miss the point entirely. Ballmer IS A HUGE DICK and should as such be treated as one.
Keep him in the dark and warm, only take him out when it's necessary for either spewing quantities of waste products everywhere, or a couple of hours of sweaty activity followed by 5 seconds of "OH GOD" pleasure.
Wait, we only ever seem him when he's doing the former, and the sweaty part of the latter, but there's still be no "OH GOD" moments from him or Micro$haft either. Perhaps Micro$haft's had it's chips, if you can't shoot, you don't reproduce or continue your species. Sure-fire way to extinction of the species.
That dripping sound you can here is my heart bleeding ;-)
Alternative careers for Ballmer.
I'd say Ballmer missed his true calling... Weatherman! They are wrong most of the time too. For an alternative, maybe he should become an actor. He does look a lot like the monster in Young Frankenstein.
Agreed.
Yes, he does have an uncanny resemblance to Peter Boyle, rest his soul.

It is just that Apple does
It is just that Apple does not want to have a higher marketshare in the OS market than Microsoft does to begin with.
Years Later, Not as Good
Microsoft totally missed the Internet, coming years later with Internet Explorer after Netscape became the rage. They survived with their desktop monopoly as a means to kill off the better competitor. The have bullied, stifled, and killed off many competitors along the way. Users ended up with technology that was "Years later and NOT as good" in most cases.
BUT, Microsoft did not learn from missing the Internet, they missed Search and Cloud computing also. Being RE-active instead of being PRO-active has cost them billions of dollars!
They missed the MP3 portable market and allowed Apple to dominate. This has lead to Microsoft losing market share to consumer computer buyers, especially high school and college laptop buyers. It has recently even hurt them in mobile phone sales.
They also kinda missed the smartphone revolution a bit. Sure they have had Windows Mobile around in some shape or form for more than 8-10 years, but in all that time they have not been able to make it a really compelling product that people liked using. Instead, Nokia, Palm, RIM, and now Apple built this category up and Microsoft just was there.
The difference is Microsoft has NO monopoly to help them in Search, mp3 sales, or smartphones. Innovation and compelling products is what they will need. NOT Microsoft's strong point at all. They will not easily be able to buy themselves out of this no matter what "Monkey Boy" says.
Microsoft Internet Explorer
Microsoft Internet Explorer was the first free browser, so don't knock it completely. Netscape was not free until their sales dropped due to IE being free. MS has positively contributed a lot more to the world too, MS Office has revolutionized the way the business world works in many good ways. Apple may be superior to MS, but let's not bash MS just for the sake of it.
Umm...no
Netscape was free before IE even existed, Heck Mosaic was free before Netscape existed.
He's right you know
MS has deep pockets. Guaranteed revenue every quarter. They can keep producing crap at a loss till they catch up. When they do, the competition would have exhausted their products unique features and thats when MS starts to win.
Your forgetting one

IT department rules
Windoze Immobile's only chance is if the IT departments get to dictate cell phones. The only reason for MicroCrap's dominant position in the enterprise is that it provides full employment for IT empire builders. Macs don't require nearly the service forces. Unfortunately, they won't be able to force consumers to buy their underpowered, overpriced and unreliable garbage.
Resemblance to...
Is it just me or does Ballmer resemble the late Peter Boyle?
LMFAO -- I'm so glad Ballmer
LMFAO -- I'm so glad Ballmer is the CEO of MS. He's the best thing Apple and Google could have ever hoped for. It's almost too good to be true.
RIM has already surpassed Windows Mobile market share, Apple will be doing the same before long, and maybe Google will be joining the MS leap froggers in 3 to 5 years. Let Ballmer talk. Apple has unleashed a mobile tidal wave that MS with all it's money can't do a damn thing about. And then there's Android...It has all the ingredients of being a Windows Mobile killer, it just needs time to marinate. I personally feel that Windows Mobile has met it's match and will decline at best to a mobile market position of trivial in 5 years.
