iTunes Extras/LP material ready for Apple TV - re-download now!
Who remembers the days of summer when we spent quality time speculating that iTunes LP content would fit snugly onto Apple TVs for playback on your big TV sets?
Well, as we know this exact feature took its place inside Apple TV 3.0, but owners of iTunes LP content were advised they’d have to redownload the material - and today the great rush to Apple TV begins, with Apple notifying purchasers of its iTunes LP content that updated versions of these which are compatible with Apple TV 3.0 are available now. (Thanks to MacRumors).
Apple introduced Apple TV 3.0 last week, featuring a redesigned main menu that makes navigating your favorite content simpler and faster - and no longer makes you navigate to the bottom of a list to find the content you already own.
The software also lets you “enjoy iTunes Extras and iTunes LP in stunning fullscreen with your Apple TV, as well as listen to Genius Mixes and Internet radio through your home theater system,” the company said.
Apple TV users can listen to Genius Mixes through their system and listen to up to 12 endless mixes of songs that go great together, automatically generated from their iTunes library.
Anyway, in case you have any iTunes Extra/LP content, now’s the time to redownload it and watch/listen to it over the weekend.

I wanted to preorder Star Trek on the AppleTV, but its not available in HD. I'm sure its a studio thing, not an Apple thing as Apple states that you can purchase some movies on HD. My choices are to buy it on AppleTV for $14.99 or preorder the DVD from Walmart for $9.99. While most people might jump to the $9.99, I'd actually prefer the iTunes version as I hate buying physical media. I can rip the Star Trek DVD I buy and have a higher quality version to watch on AppleTV than what I could buy from them.I don't get these studios -- selling someone an HD version that lives on their AppleTV is much less prone to multiple users than a DVD which can be passed from friend to friend. These media companies have to learn to stop treating potential customers like thieves by being to skittish to make their movies available to purchase in HD electronically. Apple has done this with their products and I happily buy family packs to cover all the computers in our household. And its a pain in the you know what to have to enter serial numbers and authenticate copies of Windows 7.Apple does it right. Except when their partner companies won't let them. Physical media is dying -- embrace the future.
Right on the money.
Except that iTunes extra is FUBAR on my ATV running 3.0. I have the "extras" for Twilight. When I hit the movie it shows the menu and allows me to choose items but . . . there is no way to navigate back to the main menu without resorting to press/hold the menu button. And get this, the movie won't play. At all. Had to turn off Extras in sync prefs. Way to go Apple
