Stuff says no Apple announcements as Apple Stores go offline across Asia

Update: Yep, we can tick Stuff off of our list of reliable sources.

In a move destined to create much gnawing and gnashing of teeth among company watchers, Apple today allegedly denied it intends introducing any new products later on.

An Apple source has poured cold water on the hubbub of expectation, denying the company plans any announcement “today or tomorrow”.

Stuff reports: “We've been in contact with Apple to see if there was any comment to the rumoured announcement. We were first told we "hadn't missed any Apple announcements", and when pressed on if there was any news on events today or tomorrow, we got the simple reply: "Nope".”

Clutching at straws, we’d like to point out that not every Apple product upgrade actually makes it all the way to “announcement” status, some just quietly slip into being on the Apple Store, but these tend to be slight model upgrades rather than the whizz-bang credit-card attention-seeking new product salvos we’ve learned to love.

We’ll wait and see if there’s any change in the situation, but as of 11.57am UK time, the Apple Store remains open for business and there’s no news there.

NOTE: Above image is illustrative only, as explained above the Apple Store remains open for business.

UPDATE: In the last half hour, Apple Stores in Australia, New Zealand and Japan have gone offline...check back for what happens next...

Any news on events today and tomorrow, with the response "nope"

hmmm...could mean that there's simply no 'news' and not necessarily no 'event'...

But I'm nothing if not an optimist!

WTF

Use of double negatives that actually make sense. Bravo! (X2)

It is certain that Apple would want to clean its inventory before releasing any new product. And instead of having your new product release annihilated by what will be a media tsunami on the 22nd, why not hold up for a week or two and steal the spotlight!

Nothing FANBOYS !

Ha ha you fail!

Also, the question was weird: "... news on events...". Events are planned and usually have a week lead time for invitations to be sent. In this case, nobody was speculating about an event, but the introduction of a number of products/upgrades. I guess we'll see soon.

The store is getting hammered though it is taking ages to load.

It will be january!

Sorry fanboys...

If Apple were to make a slight re-design in their iMac, Apple TV and release a Mac Mini Server, this would call for a keynote address. Apple always puts out the invite a week in advance. I would suspect that the keynote be before American Thanksgiving.

Wouldn't it be great if they did it on the 22nd?

US Store down, I think 9 to 5 got it wrong for once

US down

How about this: they send out an announcement this week for a media event next Tuesday. That way the news cycle hype around the Win 7 and MS Store events will include lots of rumor-mongering and anticipation of what Apple will be coming out with.

Probably not real likely, but if they do have as many products to release as rumored, and they do seem pretty likely (definitely MacBooks and probably iMacs), and they would want to get them out real soon in time for Christmas... Seems like it would be a great subversive move.

Are there people who actually whip out their credit card on the day Apple releases (expensive!) new products? Thats absolutely ridiculous. Shameful, even.

Ever hear of donating to charity?

Ok here's my take. My family have been mac people since Apple released the very first iMac. What we've done with each computer that we have went through is DONATED every time we updated our computers. That hasn't happened yet as we have been using the same macs for the past six years. I'm still using my PowerMac G5 and i think that that was well spent. People would cycle through and possibly donate their old computer to charity and get a new one.

As in the subject

C'mon apple! We've been waiting for these upgrades! The iMacs, Macbooks, Mac Mini, Magic Mouse and New Trackpad.
