Apple targets 25 million iPhone v.2 sales

Mon, 04/28/2008 - 06:18 — Andy Space

Apple has aggressive sales targets for its next-generation 3G iPhone, anticipating 20-25 million units of the new device to be sold within the product’s lifecycle.

This news leaked from the Far East this morning, where long-time Apple partner, Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry), has once again been named as being contracted to manufacture the new device, according to the Chinese-language Commercial Times. Foxconn also manufactures the current iteration of the iPhone.

Component suppliers are on scramble now to ship their parts by the end of May, with shipments of the device expected to exceed three million units in June. This would assume to reach well into 2009 (assuming 1 year product cycles that Apple seems to have on iPods and iPhones).

The news once again reinforces expectation the new breed of the device will ship in June.

If they want huge sales in

If they want huge sales in the US, they will need a CDMA version, that would push them into the numbers they want.

The iPhone is currently

The iPhone is currently locked with AT&T. AT&T uses EDGE & 3G. They dont have CDMA (like verison). So at the present time, you will not see CDMA, until the AT&T contract ends.

I knew about the contract.

I knew about the contract. Anyone know when that is up in the US? We are already hearing of other countries going unlocked.

last i heard, it was a 5

last i heard, it was a 5 year exclusivity contract.

CDMA isn't used much elsewhere in the world, and if you look at Apple's thinking, they know they have a product that will have people switching carriers if they want it enough.

You just said 'Far East'.

You just said 'Far East'. What decade is this?

They better start selling

They better start selling iphones in Japan soon, or apple's going to lose some numbers in sales for sure...

but so far it looks like docomo's getting ready to take in the iphone

I'm sure Steve knows

I'm sure Steve knows that.
What's funny is that Apple is creating such demand for a 1st gen phone already... if they don't drop the ball, imagine how much in control they will be in a few years? The winning part about the iPhone is that it was created by Apple guys for themselves- and dang they have done a great job!
