Apple Black Friday deals revealed (down under)

Apple’s Black Friday sales have begun - in Australia - there the company’s range of discount deals have just this minute gone live on the Apple Store online.

There’s special deals across the company’s product range, including discounts on the iPod nano, iPod touch, Apple TV, MacBook Pro and iMac.

Price drops are in the 8-10 percent range, consistent with that second Boy Genius Report prediction we told you about. We reckon you can expect similar discounts in the US and UK once these deals go live there.

While Apple’s deals are solid, it is well worth mentioning that Amazon is already offering a higher discount - 11 per cent - on major-selling products, including the iPod touch, MacBook, Mac Mini, MacBook Pro and iMac. And Amazon don’t charge sales tax in most states.  Also, Amazon is also offering a $10 discount on Discover card purchases and a free year of Wired Magazine.  Not too shabby.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Technically they're not black friday sales except in the US, since the name doesn't exist except there.  Apple store UK just says ' Happy Friday.  The special Apple one-day shopping event. November 27.'

I like the name 'Happy Friday'.  Could catch on...  Much better name that naming a pre-christmas sale after a stock market crash..

JANUARY 1966 -- "Black Friday" is the name which the Philadelphia Police Department has given to the Friday following Thanksgiving Day. It is not a term of endearment to them. "Black Friday" officially opens the Christmas shopping season in center city, and it usually brings massive traffic jams and over-crowded sidewalks as the downtown stores are mobbed from opening to closing.

The Phil. Police dept. takes claim for this each year, but the generally accepted etymology of the term comes from the early 1980s, to express business going from being in the red (debt) to in the black (profit) as opposed to a negative connotation used from '66.

Since then, this has become the national definition for the term.

Why not in the East eg Singapore, Malaysia etc? I give thanks like anyone else.

a Steely Dan song:

When Black Friday comes
I'll stand down by the door
And catch the grey men when they
Dive from the fourteenth floor
When Black Friday comes
I'll collect everything I'm owed
And before my friends find out
I'll be on the road
When Black Friday falls you know it's got to be
Don't let it fall on me

Placed my order yesterday!!! at 15:10.

Will make a phone call but doubt I'll get anywhere.

Disappointing :(
