Yesterday, Apple introduced a small feature update and bugfix release of AppleTV, 2.2. The new features included :
- HD TV Show Playback and Purchase
- eMusic Video playlists
- Genius playlists
- On-the-Go playlists
- Standby Option
The security issues and bugfixes weren't so good, however. Many users found their AppleTVs in an endless reboot loop (Infinite Loop?!) after the upgrade. Why? No one knows for sure. They could restore to factory settings but had no luck trying an upgrade again....
Strangely, all of a sudden, last night, the AppleTVs were able to upgrade.
What happened? Was there an authentication issue on Apple's part? Dunno. Our update was fine straight away. It appears safe to update your AppleTVs at this point.
Props

WTF!
WTF is eMusic Video Playlist?
I have been want music video playlist since I first got my Apple TV in May of 2007. It is great but the video playback itself isn't. This is partly due to the encoding of the music videos themselves. Some are awesome. But others look horrible on my big screen tv and then there were visible screen artifacts showing up while watching them.
Re: WTF!
Yeh I cant belive the poor quality of some of the music videos in the iTunes store. I assumed that only the Australian store (which I use) had "defective" videos. I find about 25% of the videos I buy have some type of visual artifact such as a row of coloured blocks. The worst video I have purchased is Silverchair's "Straight Lines". There are four points in the video where screen artifact appears.
You would think that the record companies supplying videos to Apple for the store would follow some basic quality control process, but it seems not.
I use to be really cranky about this - but overtime I have just accepted thats the way it is.
More sabotage by former
More sabotage by former Microsoft programmers that have been hired by Apple. They must be purged! They are ruining Apple's rep!
Video playlists
I want video playlists for everything. I've got all these podcasts but I have to keep choosing a new one when one finishes. I should be able to use playlists for these...
And I want my iTunesU content to be separate from the other categories too.
2.2 Update Bricked thousands of AppleTV boxes.
What a waste of time this update is..Check out the Apple support forums & see the thousands of posts complaining about how this update "Bricked" their box, including mine..I cannot believe that Apple released this. Do not install this update unless you're willing to risk being forced to perform a restore & spend hours getting all your stuff reloaded..
