Slim Aluminum MacBooks Coming Soon from AppleSubmitted by Cleve Nettles on Fri, 09/21/2007 - 10:02.
We have received some information about the upcoming Apple laptops - we think they are MacBooks but aren't 100 percent sure they aren't the fabled Pro slim line.
What we are wondering:
Expect to hear more on this in the coming weeks and maybe even see a few spyshots around the web (Apple Lawyers: not here!). Oh, and that keyboard picture? We lifted that from Apple.com, it's not from a MacBook.

Holy shit how do you guys
Holy shit how do you guys always get this information 1st?! Is this the same source as the Nano and iPod Touch leaks?
Source
Ya, every time you guys seem to have more information about Apple releases before anyone else! I can't wait to see this thing. I also wonder if they are going to be decreasing the size of their MacBook Pros to compete with Toshiba's new thin laptop.
--
Max ... Out!
Politically incorrect
Think they'll have any marketing jokes about "can't be too thin"? :)
Neil Anderson from Anchorage
Neil Anderson from Anchorage AK?
Is so how the Hell you doing and thanks for turning me onto Mac back in 95.
My nipples are exploding
My nipples are exploding with pleasure!
Hope you're right
They were right about the iPod line-up and I sure hope they'll be right about this as well.
Slimmer MacBooks would kick ass, so let's just hope they're not searing hot!
--
Not thinner, smaller!
God, I've been waiting for a 12-13" intel macbook pro for 3 years! I'm about to break down and just buy a sony or toshiba.
Please Apple, don't just make thin versions of the same things, make something smaller!
Timing
Yep, always first, as long as it's between nine and five. :)
trumors
you guys getting my favourite (t)rumor blog out there - that macbook change sounds pretty plausible and represents my thoughts on that issue. think they gonna get rid of white and met somewhere between the current pro lineup and the iphonish style. their product line was/is pretty disrupted design wise, but is certainly on its way getting some consistency back.
but what's going on with the trackpad? I'd really like to see a multitouchscreen replacing the trackpad...
MacbookDS
I've also been hoping for this.
Re: trumors - multitouch
Don't hold your breath on the Multi-touch. Development for laptop use is still a while out, I'd guess about a year. Hell, just a couple of months ago, Jobs still wasn't sure if Multi-touch is right for laptop use.
Multitouch is barely useful
Multitouch is barely useful on the iPhone, I can't see it being much use on any screen that's bigger than your handspan. (In any case, if anyone ever puts their fingers anywhere near any of my screens I'll go ballistic!)
Wait, the pads on MacBooks
Wait, the pads on MacBooks now aren't multiple-touch? They can detect whether 2 or 3 fingers are on the pad.
Oh, they can't tell where all three of those fingers are, is that it?
That's Cool!
i was waiting this rumor!!!!
thats make me very happy, i gonna buy it immediatly...
you think that in paris expo will be announced?
Don't think so... Apple expo
Don't think so... Apple expo in paris, is now has been... We don't wait anything new hardwares there. iPhone anouncement surely... but nothing amazind, there isn't keynote... :'(
Didn't Apple release the G5
Didn't Apple release the G5 iMac at the Paris expo?
yes they did and that was
yes they did and that was the last thing to be released there.
I like the white so much :(
I like the white so much :( why no white :(
Hoorah!
As the Beatles once sang, "Let it be, let it be, let it beeeee, let it bee-hee!"
This all sounds, a) plausible , b) likely & c) hugely desireable.
No way will they announce this in Paris. Apple would barely spit on the Paris Expo if it was on fire these days. Steve is more likely to come round my house and do it there.
More please, you big trackpad teasers that you are.
if the screen wont be multi
if the screen wont be multi touch maybe the track pad will be?
Aww no white
Aww too bad, I just loved the white MacBooks, I wanted to save for it, so I wonder what the future will bring us :/
Yeah, it's pretty sad. But
Yeah, it's pretty sad. But the problems with the white MacBooks getting dirty had a lot of complaints. I predict that in the next few years, there will be a comeback for white apple products because they will want to go back to the original look.
well i don't see what else
well i don't see what else they could be doing at paris expo other than the macbooks because theyve already dealt with the iphone in america and uk, germany, france etc...
they simply dont visit the
they simply dont visit the expo.
Apple keys?
I wonder if the new line of MacBooks will also loose the Apple key. Do you think´s there´s any intention that they left it out on the recently introduced keyboards?
There never has been a key
There never has been a key called “Apple Key”. It always has been called the “Command Key”, so it's just logical to print “command” or “cmd” on it instead of the Apple logo.
I noticed a lot that people just did not know that the key with the Apple logo is called the Command key. So re-labeling the key is a good idea to make the Mac even easier to use.
Re: Apple Key
The no Apple key comment is simply not true. In the past, there was an Apple key. Not only that, but if I recall correctly, prior to Macintosh, there was both an open-apple key and a closed-apple key (one outline, one filled in).
I think there are wikipedia entries on this, but I don't have time to look them up. I just don't want mis-information given out and taken as fact.
command key
"The no Apple key comment is simply not true. In the past, there was an Apple key."
I think we can all agree that the key is still there. It just doesn't have the apple symbol on it anymore.
In the past the key had both the quincunx (⌘) symbol and the Apple symbol. Now it has only the quincunx symbol. (Of course we'll have to wait to see what the key looks like on these new MacBook things. So far the Apple symbol has been absent only from Apple's new USB and Bluetooth keyboards.)
The symbol on the command
The symbol on the command key is not a quincunx. A quincunx is the '5' pattern on a die. I believe the clover/propeller symbol was found by an Apple programmer in a tourism book (from Sweden, I think), meaning "point of interest," and they decided to use it because the thought the command key was an interesting and unique Mac feature.
Open-Apple / Closed Apple keys...
I completely forgot about this until this post! My Apple //e had both the Open-Apple (next to the 'power light') and Closed-Apple keys on either side of the spacebar. I believe it was mapped to the buttons that you would have on a joystick (I had the Apple Joystick too). Here's the Wikipedia History on the 'command' keys:
------------------
The first model on which it appeared was the 1980 Apple III, where there are two Apple keys, both to the left of the space bar on the lowest row of the keyboard. Two other early Apple computers, the 1982 Apple IIe and the 1984 Apple IIc, also had two such keys, one to the left and one to the right of the space bar; in these models, they mapped to the two different fire buttons of an attached joystick. In all these cases, the left Apple key had an outlined "open" Apple logo, and the one on the right had an opaque "closed" Apple logo. The Apple Lisa had only the closed Apple logo. When the Macintosh was introduced in 1984, the keyboard had a single command key with a symbol reminiscent of a four leaf clover (⌘, U+2318), because Steve Jobs said that showing the Apple logo throughout the menus as a keyboard shortcut was "taking [it] in vain."[1]
Thus, the ⌘ appears in the Macintosh menus as the primary modifier key symbol.
