Press Pass photos of 67th-Broadway Store

OK, this is the last one unless someone in one of the apartments above drops something on the "glass ceiling".  Gizmodo got the first inside pictures of the new Apple Store.  We've pasted the best below with Matt's description:

I can't tell you—and the pictures can't show you—how utterly open and expansive the room feels. To give you an idea of the space, the walls are 45 feet tall, and could fit 11 Apple Cubes inside. The spareness is breathtaking. It's cold. Not literally, but the stone walls, the glass, the sheer space rob it of any sense of warmth or feeling. The only sense of life in room is the products. It's a temple to them, really.

Glad I don't have to clean all that glass

Wow, just imagine their Windex and paper towel bill !

Once again, I do not understand why people vote down perfectly lighthearted comments.

because some people are just

because some people are just on sites to "thumb down" comments... I doubt those people really read the comment or even the article!

what happens if microsoft fanboys living in the nearby buildings start throwing eggs or tomatoes on the ceiling?!

There really is no such thing

There really is no such thing as a MicroSoft Fanboy. They are technically slaves or at a minimum indentured servants.

Not sure about this design

2019

There are things about this space that suit the products, like its clean, bright, simple design, but there's something about this space that doesn't seem right. I think it has to do with the inefficient use of space that seems wrong for the purpose. There's a certain reckless luxury about it.

ya, exactly. i really think

ya, exactly. i really think they should've made another floor above the ground level floor. but still, its a pretty stunning sight.

They might say that is a

They might say that is a "green" building with the recycled glass and a green house effect  for heating... didnt see any A/Conditioning for the summer but how hot can it get right? i dont know, never been to NY and i live in the desert but i don't think summer is a big problem in that area...

You would be way wrong on

1312

You would be way wrong on that part. Its constantly in the high 80's to 90's in the summer in NYC, and is not even the bad part, its the humidity that we get up here. 90 isnt to hot in the desert, but 90 with a really high humidity number makes you sweat just walking out the front door.

Couple that with the glass roof and the sun coming in from several angles, they definitely have severe cooling needs in that building.

90 in the desert isn't that

90 in the desert isn't that hot? Live in the desert much?

Enough with the Fahrenheit,

Enough with the Fahrenheit, switch to Kelvin already. Or celcius at the very least.

Glass first floor, too much of a perv risk?

1117

Shame that they didn't build a completely glass first floor but I guess the upskirt perv would be a bit of an issue, unless they mirrored the glass when looking up?

Ah yes, but then that would

1214

Ah yes, but then that would just cater to the down-shirt perv, wouldn't it? Good idea though.

Glass, Green, HVAC, etc.......

1313

The HVAC is in the floor on main floor & in ceiling of lower floor. Plus glass is multi-paned insulated glass.

Why did they just put an upper mezzanine in the back for half the store instead of basement? Partial basement could just be storage & tech bench, offices, etc. while upper mezzanine would be what the basement is now...? Why so tall if you are not using it?

" Why so tall if you are not

" Why so tall if you are not using it?"

Why exactly do you think that space isn't being used? Of course it is! But it's used beyond a pragmatic comprehension. Space is like music, much more about where silence is perceived, than the actual 'sound'.

I have lived in the dry and

1215

I have lived in the dry and humid climates, and 90* and dry is MUCH more comfortable that 90* and humid.  Both are hot, but the dry weather is much easier to live with.  In the dry climate your sweat evaporates right away, and that helps to cool you.  In the humid climate is does not, and you stay hot and clammey all the time

Not to mention the fact that

1115

Not to mention the fact that in the humid climate, shade does little to nothing in terms of helping one feel cool. Whereas in the dry heat, shade can mean a world of difference coolness wise.

Everyone's suddenly an

198

Everyone's suddenly an architecture critic! It's a stunning building and I'm sure the architects thought about the air con! The building aside, it's been a disappointing because I think we all expected this to be a showcase for a new design of Apple's stores and it seems nothing has really changed. If it ain't broke, don't fix it I guess.

What about the birds?

1710

Can the birds rest on the roof?

What about crap and rubbish?

It will look good on a clear day but even better when it rains and snows. Not sure how much space there is around the building but thunder storms would be cool too.

The should have a webcam pointing at the sky broadcasting a shot every 5 minutes.
