Apple Expo Paris to be Launchpad for European iPhones, TV Shows
Update - we just got some new intel from Orange
Bet you forgot about ol' Apple Expo Paris didn't you? Well, from September 25-29th, 2007, Paris will be LE place to be for Apple aficionados the world over. The Fall event is held at a perfect time for a European iPhone announcements in front of the home crowd - a month ahead of the release.
Additionally, the Eurocentric crowd will likely get their own version of country-specific television shows on iTunes and an expanding iTunes Movies coverage.
Jonny Evans over at Macworld.co.uk has announced that both Vodafone and O2 would be carrying the iPhone in the UK - something we voiced a few months back. The release date has been speculated to be November 1st, continent-wide (UK, France, Germany..maaaybe Spain).
Orange in France and TMobile in Germany have also been rumored to be frontrunners in the competition to carry the iPhone.
For all of you youngsters/Apple newbs out there, Apple Expo is where Apple announced:
- iCal in 2002
- The wireless keyboard and mouse in 2003
- The iMac G5 new form factor in 2004
- Major Enhancements to .Mac in 2005
Apple was present at last year's event but didn't have any products to announce. This year, however, could be a mega-blockbuster comparitively speaking - with so much at stake.
For its part, Apple has not announced whether or not Monsieur Jobs will be making an appearance/Keynote in the City of Light but we have a call in to Apple PR and Apple Expo PR and are hoping to be able to provide more information shortly.
Since 9to5Mac has people on the ground in Paris, we will, of course, have full coverage of the event. Perhaps even some pictures. Stay tuned...

Or European iTunes movie/TV downloads?
-Added as speculation...but makes perfect sense
You forgot the first iBook in 2000, the first iMac to go :)
My first keynote ;'-)
The iBook with Firewire was actually introduced in Paris 2000. (The first iBook was Macworld July 1999). But good call anyway.
I bet they won't announce a new Ipod in europe, it probably is just going to focus on bringing the iphone to europe. Does anyone know if Europe gets their Apple products the same time the US does? If not then I bet Apple on Sept 18th releases the new widescreen touch ipod which will not have any wifi or bluetooth capabilities due to the fact we haven't seen any FCC approval requests yet. I also bet Apple will only release this Ipod in the US for now and will wait for the iphone to get some traction in Europe before releasing the new ipod there.
most products come out the same time, with the exception of the iPhone
My bet includes Italy. :)
Well, as for my Apple experience of 3 years, all the products launched by Apple are simultaneously launched in the whole world at the same time via apple Stores online except for exclusivities such as iPod mini (because they wanted to know how well it would be received by general opinion) & iPhone so I do hope that the new touchscreen iPod - if there is one - coming Sept 18th, wiil be launched at in Europe as well.
P.S. : You say: Paris will be LA place to be for Apple aficionados the world over (because place is a feminine word in french)
You're right about the gender of "place" in French. But "place" is in fact a false cognate: "la place" does not always mean "the place" but instead means "the plaza" or for a geographical position, "place" (in line, on a bus). To say in French what we mean as "place" in English you would use a different term like "l'endroit" or "le lieu," which readers wouldn't understand anyway. So we just made a joke with the article and "place" here should be read as the English word, not the French (which wouldn't have the right meaning were it grammatically correct).
:P
9to5mac
Dude, you are right grammatically, but it still sounds stupid from a French perspective. "La place" sounds much better... If you want to sound sofisticated by saying French stuff, get the gender right, or your effect will be lost...
Cheers
NEW IPOD~
Why did you say "Maaaaybe spain"? Just a thought? or have you got any evidence? Im desperate for some info!
Telefonica Spain has been mentioned numerous times in reports as well as O2 of picking up the iPhone.
I see, thank you very much for the info. You got any links to articles/press releases where telefonica is mentioned?
Oh and, do you predict it for the first "November 11th" launch? Or for some second-hand later release for "un-cooler" European countries?
