Apple event postponed until Mid March
It looks like the Apple event originally scheduled for February 26th has been postponed until mid-Marchish. Apple would have made the decision last week because they usually allow a journalists a week to arrange travel to the event. The reason for the delay is likely that the SDK isn't ready for primetime and the developer apps aren't polished enough to be shown.
Apple has introduced something on just about every Tuesday in 2008 so far so we still are likely to see a new release of some sort - MacBook Pros seem like the most likely candidates. There are still lots of things that could be released at any moment including:
- More European Apple stores (Munich, Swiss)
- More iPhone areas (Italy, Austria, Spain)
- New MacBook Pros
- A tablet
- 3G iPhone
- iPod/touch price drops
- iMac Processor upgrades
- Something we haven't thought of?
Apple will likely announce the delay with a Tuesday press release at the same time as announcing the new product...just like the AppleTV Take 2 delay.

Um, as well as more "EU" iPhone areas, now that it is 2008 we can only hope to start seeing "Asia" iPhone areas (hoping for Australia, although unlikely before the 3G iPhone is released).
Also, Blue-Ray something ...
what's with Apple?
seems like they're falling behind all of a sudden, no?
the Macbooks and Macbook Pros are crying for updates; and the shine is wearing off (speed-wise) of the iMacs; which probably need to move on to higher class Penryns (maybe switch to QuadCores as a standard?) now.
the 3G iPhone has been a while coming; and I'll probably get a 16GB one (cracked, if it isn't released in India in another month officially) for the time being.
The time they're taking is rather disappointing, especially if Montevina is a Penryn upgrade, and will already be here by May/June.
Hello how fast is the fast you want, if you want fast pay for a Mac pro.
And if you want a great product stop whining and if your preference is just will do MS is for you.
Track pad mouse for desktops
That is what I am interested in...
Mouse is old school with this new multitouch interface gaining steam...
Well Macrumors just ran a report that tuesday would be the day of the MacBook Pros don't really know how accurate this is but they claim to know that shipments are halted until Wednesday so they extrapolate from there...
im just waiting for the new itouch thatll work like a smart mouse/ super trackpad for your mac and ill be all up for it.
i would never get the iphone...
This is ludicrous. And it's a sign that Apple is becoming more like Microsoft in its ability to execute.
Dosen't this sound familiar?
It's a SDK, for heaven's sake. Just dump what you've got out there! Developers can work around any shortcomings with a debugger.
Ok, wait a minute. When was Apple delayed by years?? Vista was, but Leopard wasn't. and what product is a failure from Apple? Surely not the iPhone. Surely not Leopard. So then what are you speaking off?
How can you compare being late by years with a few months on an OS and a few weeks on an SDK?
No chance.
"Just dump what you've got out there!"
Thats what Windows did with Vista.
"Deveolpers can work around any shortcomings with a debugger"
A year and some months later, they still can't work out all the bugs with Vista. Even with their SDK's.
To compare Apple to Microsoft on a 3 week delay (rumored) of a iPhone SDK isn't very thought out, buddy. I'm dissappointed, but I just expect that Apple will release a very good version in exchange for the wait.
Looks like MacRumors took down their projected Tuesday launch of the Macbook Pro? Interesting!?
You forgot to mention Time Capsuel.
What is a "Capsuel"?
lol sorry. I was in a hurry. "Time Capsule"
Mac Mini
Have any of you noticed that every product apple has been late with, they had to announce early? Maybe that is why they don't usually announce things early? Plus, I would rather have a polished, almost perfect product (that I am paying top $ for) than a crappy, buggy, and cheap looking product. This is why I love apple they don't ship crap that is useless and doesn't have potential.
People need to stop their cry-babying, most of the whiners wouldn't even know how to use an SDK. Most third parties are gonna take a while before they start getting their apps on iTunes. I am sure they want a full, polished SDK.
it seems to me that everything they introduce has some incredible flaw that results in a lawsuit. isn't that why everybody says never to buy a 1st gen apple anything?
people just make it big...the only thing you can compare an apple product to (in terms of design and overall quality) is another apple product even the worst apple product is miles ahead of anyone else.
bought the iPhone day it came out couldn't be happier
Its probably the itunes part of the SDK that is not working. Imagine the backlash, hey devs have fun with the SDK but we cant tell you how to publish your product for 2 more months because we forgot to work on it.....
"Something we haven't thought of?"
YEAH, HOW ABOUT AN UPDATE FOR THE GOOD OLD MACBOOK.
stupid, ugly macbook pros get allll the attention.
THANK YOU!!!!!!
Its the ONLY apple product that is STILL PLASTIC AND WHITE!!
Even they just make it aluminum, glass, LED - that would be fine. Most people don't need a 2,000+ macbook pro.
I agree. The MacBook update has been missed for months now. It needs cladding in aluminium, a new longer battery life, bigger hard drive, and arguably a faster processor (Is 2.4GHz too much to ask? Pretty please with a cherry on the top Apple?). Everything else aside peripherals has been transferred to aluminium, and is the MacBook a peripheral or a computer? Exactly. Even the iPod has lost its plastic!
C'mon Apple! Bring us a silver aluminium and black aluminium MacBook for all us students who really can't afford a MacBook Pro and are growing tired of the old plastic box that LOOKS LIKE A FREAKIN' NINTENDO DS!
More battery life?
What? I can already get 6 hours of word processing on my MacBook. What the heck do you want? Days? Then buy a backup power battery or something! Geez people, Apple is good- but it's not God. But give them a year after Toshiba or Panasonic release personal fuel cells for laptops, and Apple will make it main stream.
I am not sure what on earth you're going to accomplish more with a 2.4Ghz processor over a 2.2Ghz.
What are you guys talking about. The MacBook was upgraded less than 4 month ago and are normally upgraded twice a year oct/nov and apr/may depending on processor releases.
The majority of apple laptop users waiting for macbook pros, and those users will get theeir update first, and for a good reason. It has been 116 days since the last macbook update; and if we follow the usual order of all-things-apple, that means theres still 83 days left at LEAST, if we base its predicted arrival on the 199 day average it takes to re-introduce a new macbook feature/update. The macbook pros are 79 days OVERDUE, based on the average 186 days to update. If your looking to complain about the late arrival of apples MBP's, this is the place to do it. however, this is not the place to whine about macbook updates, as a matter of fact i dont think anywhere online is at this time. Frankly, people just dont care.
It might have something to do with Final Cut Pro or Final Cut Server. Apple pulled out of the NAB because they didn't want to wait until April to release some of their pro video apps. Just a guess...
That country is called SWITZERLAND, not Swiss!
"Most third parties are gonna take a while before they start getting their apps on iTunes. I am sure they want a full, polished SDK."
As an Apple developer who is waiting for the SDK, I agree. I'd far rather have decent documentation and not have to work through too many Apple bugs. An extra week or two on Apple's part can save me a month in trying to figure out why my application doesn't do what it's supposed to do.
Heck, I might still wait a bit even after the SDK is shipped for the 3G iPhone...
I read at http://www.personafile.com/products that the iPhone SDK was delayed because iTunes not being ready. Anyone know if this is true? I suspect developer's app weren't far enough along to be presentable (something Apple can't really control).
Ummm..what makes you think that this is real? I mean, it's likely that they will have an event to announce the SDK, but who says it has to be released through an Apple event? SDK or not, I hope the MB's and MBP's get multi-touch, and the macbook gets made to aluminum. And a tablet this Tuesday would be AMAZING. =D <== Something that would likely have to have an event though...maybe SDK/tablet at the next event? We can hope.
