let the complaining and whining begin
You, sir, are truly a noob.
And you yourself is a fuckin' lame geek. Drop that:
"You, sir, are truly a noob"
You need an ass-whooping.
I waited for the god damn Mini for more than a year! Been living without a living room computer and music directory until now.
there is a god.
Refurbished iMac looks great now. 24 inches for $1200
ok....they could have changed at least something in the imac or in the pro ..where is the so famous apple design gone?...just an hw upgrade?....wtf?....
Mini updates insufficient, price cuts desperately necessary.
iMac updates are downgrades on video. Just mind blowing.
Mac pro a nice touch, but still more than most can stomach on price.
Overall, if this is the reaction to the worst economy since the depression there are going to be a lot of hackintoshes built this year.
What are apple playing at we are supposed to be in a recession. an imac for £1800 how stupid.
Wow a new mini with a maxi price?! That Dell 9 Hackintosh is now even more alluring! :¬)
BUT a new MacPro? - this is the real bomb! :D
Underwhelming updates at least in the iMac and Mini fronts.
The mini keeps the same price tag, and what seemed like a bargain 2-3 years ago is now not a bargain at all. And the hardware updates are nice, but not revolutionary at all... I was expecting, at least, a price drop.
And what to say about the iMacs... same price points and mostly same specs than the iMacs from 04/2008. New platform yeah, but same processor speeds, a bit larger hard drives (hardly an issue nowadays)... 4Gb standard, yes, but... who has a current model with less than 4Gb anyway, when they can be had for like $50 and easily installed? Also, you gain one USB port but lose the FireWire 400 port... and you can have better graphics, but I'm not sure that was a problem anyway.
I don't know, but I think Apple cannot expect to stay with this iMac lineup for the typical 9-10 months period until the next update. The price should come down or the specs should come up. I think at least one model with moderately clocked Core 2 Quad and cheaper 8Gb option is due.
Just my 0.02c
Also, what's up with the iMac promotional image? A wireless keyboard with a wired Mighty Mouse attached? wtf? :)
that is the new wired non-extended keyboard, the number pad version is now an extra.
The economic crisis hit Apple too apparently... What happened with their oh-so-famous design?? Nothing innovative any longer, nothing left too fall in love with. Their machines got a good-schoolboy image...
Well- Mac's still look a LOT better than most PeeCee's, even if the overall design hasn't changed that much over the last couple of years or so.
Are they supposed to redesign a machine every time they update it? Personally, I think if it isn't broken, don't fix it... Their designs STILL rock and are STILL beautiful, even if they have been around for a while. Maybe you could do a better job???
The new iMac comes with a smaller keyboard (no numeric pad), but you can upgrade to one with a numeric keypad at no extra charge. i just thought is was worth mentioning before anyone gets disappointed with their new purchase.
You're right! I thought it was a photoshop screwup, didn't notice the new keyboard option. My fault! :)
I hope they didn't get rid of the number pad on that keyboard.....I can't live without it.
just read the post above...oops
Actually, I'm impressed that the Mini has retained a firewire 800 port- this is great news. The VRAM is also up to 256mb. This is really good news for all those architects and designers out there who use CAD software (believe me, the Intel graphics sucked for CAD, especially the GMA950- which is on all those Dell 9's too don't forget). All in all the Mini is looking more and more like a bargain (almost), especially compared to a Macbook Pro or similar.
As for a netbook, well my iPhone makes a pretty hot netbook actually.
The mini comes with 128 to 256 of SHARED SDRAM for video. NOT VRAM which would be MUCH faster!
it is reprehensible to ask the sort of change these puppy's cost. lets be real, no one is going to buy the mini with respectable specs for 1300 bucks. all this and no blu ray. give me a break. i'll pass.
its a shame, but soon i may become a linux man. apple is like obama, seems pretty cool until you realize he's yesterdays news all the while thinking he's better than you.
sigh.
The sentiment in that last gripe is what got us 8 years of george... I'd rather not do that again.
Well, I had sort of been thinking about a Mac Mini in the living room as a media server and whatnot. But they put up the price in the Canadian store, and i think it's out of the range I want to spend now.
But I'm not going to hackintosh a netbook instead, I'll just keep doing what I'm doing
I'll buy the $1,300 mini just to fuel your anger and expedite your stroke. Chill.
Has anybody a clue if you will be able to change the shared memory in the new mac minis? I'm probably going to buy one of these, but since Apples "high-end" mini is way too expensive i want to upgrade the "low-end" version with 1gb of ram and an external harddrive. But since this version has just 128mb shared memory and the other has 256mb i was wondering if you will be able to change that afterwards. Shouldn't be that much of a problem, afterall it's not a physical memory, right?
I hope somebody knows more than I do. Thanks!
Anyone notice the subtle iMac design revision? The foot has a taper now like the cinema displays. I like that.
This is obviously fake! You can see how the mighty mouse and the keyboard are photoshopped into the image. No way there would be a wired keyboard without a numeric pad!
And the new mac mini is fake also. Because: No way it would have five USB ports. And look how the ports are aligned. Impossible. Oh, and two display ports? Forget it.
Nice try, but Fake fake fake!!!
;-)
Um... Sorry to burst your bubble, but it's already been done. Sorry.
duh-- he knows that. sarcasm... read the interwebs much?
i notice the comments have been closed on the original story, so we'll have to gloat here. ha ha ha! way to call that one, 9to5!!!
