20-inch Cinema Display EOL'd
Apple today EOL'd the 20 inch cinema display. Whether that means a new 20-inch ultra-shiny Mini DisplayPort LED w/camera version is on the way or not is anyone's guess. The new 24-inch has had its fans (quality+camera+MacBook power adapter) and critics (price+shine), but it certainly seem like it is the direction Apple is headed. It also means a desktop product refresh in the coming month is more likely. Update: Also, Apple has lowered its prices on refurbished iMacs.
It is a bit difficult to justify the high cost of Apple Displays currently. For instance a similar Dell (With DVI not DisplayPort and TN vs. LED) including camera and superior resolution costs $279. It actually looks pretty good and gets great reviews. While we can pay a premium for Apple quality, the new displays cost MORE THAN THREE times the cost of a this Dell. That is the kind of pricing difference that gives Apple a bad name.

Got to be good odds on a new display and a new Mini to plug into it soon I reckon.

This is no similar Dell, because the Dell is using a TN-Panel.

The Dell is nowhere near similar to the Apple screen. The Dell has a completely different panel type.
If you compare the Apple with other high quality displays from HP or Eizo you will see that the prices are in the same range.
I purchased the new Cinema display for my MBP and love it. The ease of connecting power, usb and display port all in one cable makes it quick and easy. I have a hub running for all my usb devices off the back of the display and have zero issues with everything working perfectly. I have a 24" Viewsonic from last summer and went thru the steps to hook it up.. but it actually helped me decide.
The ease of use and the current usb setup I have now on the back of the Apple display makes it worth my time and removes a ton of cables from my desktop. Everything is tucked away behind the Apple display and I love it. Lets face it, in every consumer line there are "similar" products that serve the same purpose but typically a few that earn the respect to charge more due to quality, service etc... Apple is one of those brands.
If this was not the case with other products why would anyone ever buy a BMW over a Chevy? Style, quality, service... I enjoy the choices but willing to pay for the style, quality and service the Apple brand offers. I'm sure some disagree but thats why they make 24" LCD displays from $199 to $2000+ there is one for everyone.
