Apple pushing boundaries in advertising technology
We all know that Apple innovates technology hardware and software like few other, if any, firms in the world. Together with their Advertising firm, Chiat Day, they've also shown an affinity for pushing advertising and specifically banner advertising as well. Recently they've added new forms of banner ads that shake up the site around them. This weekend a cool new iPod gaming ad appeared on Pitchfork that takes this to a whole new level.

Wasn't this type of adversizing originally used for Nintendo a few years back? I thought Apple's first ad of this type was called a "rip-off" by some.

I believe it was. And Apple seem to have found some additional clever stuff for it.
The Wii ad was better!
... there's an 'a' in boundaries ... whatever happened to standards in journalism?!
what, this little ol blog? Yeah spell check doesn't go in the titles. Sorry if I offended...
Edit -> Spelling and Grammar -> Check Spelling While Typing should work for any text field in a Cocoa app, including browsers. What's killing your spellcheck?
Firefox and a hectic day job are conspiring to relegate me to hack status...
They did this on ESPN not a day or two ago
It's excellent for online news websites, TV shows and radio programs
This is also being done today on IGN.com
Nice You crashed their servers.
why is it a "whole new level"?
it really wasn't in the first place, considering it was just a flash animation.
if Steve Jobs took a sh*t in your face, you'd probably call it trend setting.
That would only be a trend if other CEO's got in line up behind him.
to shit on HIS face?
It seems like messing with the appearance of the site, the navigation buttons and whatnot, even if just visually, is a hindrance to actually using the site.
Is there a way to click out of the ad before it's over and actually use any of the web site's controls or must to wait until it's over to click on something? If you must wait until it's over to click on something I'll never buy an iPhone specifically because of this. I lothe advertising in general but preventing me from using something to force me to watch an ad is beyond my tolerance level.
Man, I'll bet you don't watch too much TV or listen to the radio if advertising annoys you so much... or any internet news videos, for that matter! And I thought patience was a virtue... Maybe you should be Amish? Oh, wait... then you couldn't be online... Either way, have a happy life in modern society with your intolerance!
Did you forget that advertising is the only reason you can use Google, Yahoo and too many other websites to mention, for free? If you truly loathe advertising, don't pick up your daily newspaper or check the news on the web. Don't tuen on your television or radio. If you want to avoid advertising com[pletely, maybe you should stay in your house and sit in the dark.
For tv there's Tivo (to skip ads) and downloaded/streamed tv shows with no ads.
For online news sites (and websites in general) there's Safari AdBlock and a large custom Hosts file (which speeds up page loads dramatically)
For Radio, I don't listen to it much since I have an iPod in my car.
As for Google, I don't' click on their text ads.
But that's me.
Sounds like a major case of OCD to me... I'll have to try using your osmosis method for learning about new useful products and see how well it goes...
These ads are on ESPN right now

btw: have you seen the perfect product placement in "24"? in the new season so far i have seen: mac pros, cinema displays, macbook pros, iphones, ipods and today even a mac mini. you saw the mac mini only from behind but all the other products were in the center of scenes (for example cloey obrian was working in a office with 3 cinema display for 2-3 episodes and you were able to see them from behind (with the logo) a dozen times, even for minutes. they occasionally had some macs before but also a lot of dell computers, this season most of the computers with a logo (i think all but i'm not sure) are macs....
