Amazon drops Kindle price $60 ahead of possible Apple tablet?
Amazon dropped the price of a standard Kindle to $299 today hoping to spur sales of the popular device. That's down $60 from Amazon's normal price which has held steady since the device was released two years ago. It isn't certain what made Amazon drop its price but we can hope that a possible Apple tablet coming down the pipe may have pushed Amazon to become more competitive in their pricing. The Kindle App on the iPhone is still free btw.

Where the hell do you get your ideas?
Apple lowered their prices so Microsoft must be releasing a new Super Computer.
No LOGIC in your story or my scenario above.
It would be perfectly logical for Amazon to drop the price of the kindle in anticipation of an Apple Tablet. What's missing from the story is authority for making such a statement.
Microsoft and super computer ? You mean super shit, with Windows Vista or Windows 7. Fail.
I agree, somewhat. There will be no competetion between the two. The kindle is an ebook reader, and future Apple tablet is pretty much a computer. So I don't really see that much competetion.
I'm not seeing what you're seeing? There are lots of things that would cause Amazon to drop the price of the Kindle. You make no sense.
ie: The fact that it doesn't sell because its a standalone unit thats provides the same function as a FREE iPhone Application....Let me repeat, FREE iPhone/iPod touch application, on 45 million devices.
Sorry, but there ain't 45 million Kindles out in the wild. Maybe 4, generously.
I don't see the link. But it would be nice if they made something like this:

Nah. I would only hope that Jon Ive has a greater imagination than that.
Am I the only who who thinks beaching reading lady is hot?
Looks like her man got an apple pad and now she is sulking on the beach...
Cute maybe, but no way is she hot.
Apple Tablet? nope, how about Arrington's Crunch Pad?
Hells yeah! I'm closely watching for news on that device myself.
It's an INSTANT buy for me.
For some reason, I can't imagine taking a Kindle to the beach...
Enough with the foolin around dang nabbit!
I want MacTouch/iTablet news NOW damnit! Right the hell NOW!!!!!
So get your intelligence services to start setting up double agents in place at cupertino and to work on more sources of information!
I'd love a Mac tablet. I wrote an iPhone App called Artist's Touch that would be great on a larger touch screen tablet. But I don't see a tablet coming anytime soon. Here's why:
The iPhone and iPod touch are already devices that you have all the time with you. They address most of the things you want to do in a mobile environment except:
1) Type for an extended period of time
2) Work on advanced computing applications
3) Need to view things on a larger display.
For the first two, you really need a laptop. You need a full keyboard and you need the current set of Applications like Photoshop, Office, etc. You can't really type long emails on a tablet. There aren't any power apps designed specifically for tablets yet and it would be really a big deal to create yet another OS X platform and ask developers to support that as well.

Apple will announce it's tablet computer / Netbook competitor this September with it's annual iPod update. Apple will revive the name iBook for it's new larger than an iTouch screen computer and it will run OS X for iPhone / iTouch.
*The author is correct.
