Apple released Airport Client Update 2009-002  today fixing some minor issues in Snow Leopard's wireless access software.  A restart is required.

Update: Apple also released MacBook Pro EFI 1.8 firmware update for MacBook Pro 5,1 and 5,2.  The update will require subsequent installation of Superdrive Update 3.0 which will quiet the DVD drive during startup and on wake from sleep.  ***ALSO BEWARE OF THE LOUD BEEP DURING THE UPDATE***

Just after this update, a new Superdrive update (19MB) has appeared in my MacBook Pro.

Great update - no noise from the optical drive on wake up from sleep. Still buzzes on boot up but I guess it has to to check if your booting from a CD/DVD.

Horrible Beep (which made me jump) and black screen for around 30 seconds on the restart of the MacBook Pro Firmware update. The same noise you get when your RAM isn't in properly (an unlikely day-to-day scenario but only other time I have heard the noise)

The update is worth it just for the gentle (and now silent) sleep wake up.

I wish I read your comment before the beep scared the crap out of me.

Anyways, I have the same problem. The noise is gone on sleep/wake, but still happens on boot up.

It's so nice to not have to deal with the loud noise on wake up from sleep! Beware of the loud beep :)

Didn't get the beep on my 24" iMac. Like the quieter wakes.

This firmware update is unbelievable. Specifically the DVD firmware update. So nice to not have it initialize or whatever when you wake from sleep.

I agree.  This is the best update that I can remember.  I had to burn the remaining half dozen DVDs tonight for my "Holiday Party Card" (don't ask - it's my wife's idea but my project).

Burning DVDs is most certainly faster.  I'd say it's 50% faster, and the CPU isn't working nearly as hard during the burn process.

Can I silence the SuperDrive in my MacBook Pro4.1?

The update was really great and it makes my work a lot better. What I did not like was the annoying beeeepppppp... Thanks anyway.

Hm, sadly my superdrive still makes the same noise, both on boot and on wake from sleep. No idea how to fix it :(

It's a wonderful software. One of my friend is using it and he is telling it is amazing software.
