TUAW: 27-inch Cinema Display, 12-core Mac Pro by June

AppleInsider is reporting that Apple is preparing to launch a 27-inch Cinema Display and 12-core Mac Pro by June. The 27-inch Cinema Display is rumored to use the same panel as the one used in the 27-inch iMac and will look similar to the 24-inch Cinema Display launched in October 2008.

Internally, the display is referred to as "K59" and AppleInsider's sources believe its been lingering in Apple's labs for some time while Apple waited for the larger LCD panel - which supports resolutions up to 2560 by 1440 pixels - to drop in price.

Along side the 27-inch Cinema Display will be the long-awaited Mac Pro update. The tower would get at least one 12-core model using two of Intel's six-core Xeon 5600 processors (that's a dodeca-core Mac Pro, baby!). The 5600 series will be available in 2.66, 2.8, 2.93, and 3.33GHz configurations.

A June time frame would be almost fifteen months after Apple shipped the last Mac Pro. The late release would owe itself to Intel not delivering the Xeon 5600's for another month and a half. Apple typically updates their Pro towers in the first few months of the new year.

Businessweek reports today that an elite group of developers have recieved iPAds to test their applications on, however, these iPAds must be kept tethered to a fixed object and in rooms with blacked-out windows.

Would-be testers of the tablet-style computer, due to be released Apr. 3, must promise to keep it isolated in a room with blacked-out windows, according to four people familiar with the more than 10-page pact that bars partners from disclosing information about the iPad. To ensure that it can't be removed, the iPad must also remain tethered to a fixed object, said the people, who asked not to be named because their plans for the iPad have not been made public. Apple (AAPL) won't send out an iPad until potential partners send photographic evidence that they've complied.

Our immediate reaction to this is: What does Apple want to hide at this point? Haven't we seen the iPad in its final form from a hardware perspective? From a software perspective, what is so interesting that they need developers to hide it.

The WSJ is one of the companies who has the iPad under lock and key as outted by Rupert Murdoch himself...among other things.

Distorted-Loop: Free Pioneer Software Is Big Beat To Digital DJs

This could be a pretty big deal to working DJs who use digital music as part of their set – Pioneer is to make its powerful cross-platform digital music management software, rekordbox, available for free download for the first time after the successful launch of their new club standard CDJs.

Up until now, rekordbox software was only available with a purchase of either the CDJ-900 or CDJ-2000. From 24 May 2010, it will be available as a free download (download link will be communicated on this date on (www.pioneerdj.eu). This means even without the players at home, DJs can use the software to prepare tracks for playback using the CDJ-900s or CDJ-2000s at the club.

Mark Grotefeld, Head of Marketing, Pioneer Europe commented, “rekordbox brings a DJ friendly approach to music management whilst seamlessly integrating with a DJs existing iTunes music library via Bridge, so it’s great news we can now offer this ever advancing software as a free download to all DJs.”

rekordbox allows you to import music from iTunes using the Bridge function or by simply adding them into the software for management. rekordbox will work out the BPM and allow you to set hot cue and loop points into the track, utilizing a full beat grid view in advance, as well as colour coding your music and adding all the ID3 information so it appears automatically later on any CDJ-2000 or 900. Working with rekordbox also means that when tracks are exported to a USB key or SD card, the CDJ-900 or CDJ-2000 will load the waveforms instantly. The database layout within the software can be customized to suit individual DJ style which enables personalized layouts when browsing on your CDJ-900 / CDJ-2000s.

The softwares unique reverse functionality enables the new CDJs to record your cue, loop & set history during your set which can be recalled in rekordbox later. If you enable the Quantize feature within the CDJ-2000 / CDJ-900, then rekordbox makes loop and cue points snap to the beat (1ms accurate), ensuring beat-perfect loops and cues.

rekordbox will also be fully compatible with future Pioneer DJ products across the range. As clubs begin to upgrade to the CDJ-900 and CDJ-2000 from the CDJ-1000MK3, the ability to travel and arrive at the club with your music prepared on a single USB or SD card (such as a USB flash memory key) is now a reality.
