January 26th - Tablet Tuesday?

If the Financial Times is right, we might have only one month to wait until "Tablet Tuesday".  They report:

Apple has something big up its sleeve for next month.  The company has rented a stage at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco for several days in late January, according to people familiar with the plans.  Apple is expected to use the venue to make a major product announcement on Tuesday, January 26th. Both YBCA and Apple declined to comment.

Remember, Apple turned down Macworld Expo 2010 which is usually scheduled for a week or so before this event.  Instead, Macworld moved to February.  This event would be sandwiched in between CES in January and Macworld.

According to the Yerba Buena calendar, the dates of the 25, 26 and 27th of January are open.

This date would also roughly coincide with iLounge's prediction from earlier this year.

If Apple does announce the tablet next month, it will likely be at least few months longer before you can get your grubby hands on one.  It will also be better than whatever you are getting for Christmas.

The Apple Tablet: Better Slate than never.

Wow! What a bad move by Apple to miss the holiday shopping season. How many people will have money left over after the holidays to shell out the suspect $900 for this gadget?

I also bet Apple introduces an updated Touch, with a camera to slow the growth of the Zune.

Apple has had an event in January for the last 15 years or more.  It is a great time to launch product.  December is the time they clear inventory from their channels, and January is the time to release new stuff.

Its not only NOT a bad move, its practiced by many retail outlets.  Clear out inventory, then release new.  Apple may have missed an opportunity as other tablets are rushing to catch up before apple even releases it.  But missing Christmas is a good idea, and was always part of the plan.

It's about making lots of money continuously throughout each financial year.

Christmas is guaranteed sales,  you need to entice people to spend more money throughout the rest of the year.

It goes something like this (ish):
Student deals in late summer, straight into new ipods releases after  a flurry of mac + ipod students deals.... then black friday, then christmas, then new product announcements and refreshes in the new year, then new product releases in the spring followed by new iphone releases in the summer, the back to the school deals and the cycle continues with sprinklings of product refreshed in between to keep Apple the centre of attention.

what growth of the zune buddy? lol.

Oh you don't think the Zune is closing the gap on the Touch?

Well I can back up my comment with some help from CNET.com

Watch from the 1:13 mark FANBOY!

It's so cool to see idiot fan boys get spanked as hard this one. People think that Apple can do no wrong, yet Apple has done many things wrong. Only because of one or two amazing products have they survived and yes I do mean amazing.

The only idiots are those who rely on mindless phrases like "idiot fanboy".

THAT'S your reference?  Seriously?  One offhand comment the essence of which was to say the iPod is far ahead of the Zune?  That's not a reference as there is no data.  Try being more discriminating in your information sources.

That has been used too many times already on the AppleByte video blog.

Hey look, it's Steve's car...

Yep Steve has a cool car. How does he drive w/o plates though?

he got permission to drive with a bar code rather than plates several years ago.  Apparently there was a problem with people wanting to steal his license plate.

No, the bar code is just the VIN sticker that comes with the car. I guess he just doesn't mind paying the fines for not having the plate on.

Oh yeah,  there will be more than just the Tablet. Much more! Major moves coming! Apple will be sprinting into the new year! Like a hurricane.

Yeah, you know so much...

The only thing Apple's going to announce this year in the way of a brand new product is the tablet. They'll refresh the Air to keep it going, they might try again to make the Apple TV more relevant (hopefully with Boxee), they'll re-refresh the macbook pros (with what though I don't know). They'll have a new version of iLife with some nice new stuff, probably iWork too. Both will get online versions that come with this years version (to make up for the lack of amazing new features after last year's bananza), and iTunes will go online. iTunes will get TV subscriptions, eBooks, magazines, etc. The iPhone 4G will come out with 64 GB in the high end model :D, while the newly camera equipped iPod Touch will have a nice camera and 128 GB tops. The Classic will be remade with flash memory only, since four of those memory chips will be about $60-70 for 256 GB.

These are all predictions for 2010, and probably 90% will come true based on the rumors, tradition, and common sense.

PS: Sprint like a hurricane? Hurricanes sprint?

i wonder if the tablet will have some type of stand, to me a tablet without one would be awkward to use. imagine holding it up for 100 minutes to watch a movie?

i haven't had a lot of experience with tablet computers, is there any way to actually use it without holding it?

You are saying this will be better than the mac mini server I got for christmas?

The Tablet is late because Apple was finalizing neogtiations to permit users to subscribe to individual television programs that can be viewed any time and anywhere. Cable and satellite are DEAD !!!

Hi,

But I have heard that there's a 50-50 chance that Apple will introduce its  first tablet sized device in next month....

Very good article. I was recently blogging on The Netflix Prize, which deals with the quality of the recommendation. However, conclusions are drawn primarily off of user ratings. People don't seem to bother rating on facebook, I know I don't. I wonder what correlations exist there...

If steve is Happy, It’s gotta be another home run - Might even be a Grand Slam with Apple TV upgrade and a new Itunes category for content
