Sony to have super-small super-light laptop too...
It isn't just Dell that will be rolling out the new crazy sleek MacBook Air assaulting laptops in 2009. Sony now has their own teaser site advertising a "revolutionary new Viao that will change the way you look at laptops". If it is the one that Engadget peeped three weeks ago, that "change the way you look" might involve squinting. The screen is some weird ultra widescreen that is under 4.5 inches high. Likely pictures and a few specs below...

- Runs Windows (baaaarf) hopefully XP
- Bluetooth,
- 802.11b/g/n WiFi
- Both EVDO and HSPA data courtesy of Qualcomm's Gobi chipset
- Dimensions - just over 9.5 x 4.5-inches

Vaio netbook AKA The Baguette
But vaio's are slow and netbooks are slower. More like a mini-cooper.
The new mini isn't slow,it goes 126 mph (202 km/h)
"On the 9th of January..."
They are like 25 years late!
For those who do not remember --or were barelly born-- at the end of the "1984" commercial that launched the Macintosh in... preciselly 1984, the commentor and the letters told us that...
On January 24th, Apple Computer will introduce Macintosh. And you'll see why 1984 won't be like “1984.”
Endgadget may be right: Sony's advertising has the same height/width proportion !
I find the strangest thing the URL. "thewaitisover" – but there's still another 17 days to go!
The "wait is over" not because that day is here, but because no one is bothering to wait for another 2nd rate Sony Laptop product.
Sony has dropped the ball on the VIAO too many times. Although they look great, they are quirky beasts.
Sony just doesn't have what it takes, and can't manage to give up on a great idea that isn't accepted by customers (like MD, MS, Beta, etc etc)

Back in 2000, Sony have a mutant widescreen.
Came in at 1kg abnd had a 8.9" (1024 x 480).
Loads of ports and a built in webcam!
The wait is over!
Our new Laptop now without Windows!
Oh, wait ... They still all run the same OS ... wow.
So much for making a difference.
Don't they realize it's not the sleekness it's the Operating System running on it. If Sony had a computer running OS X I would buy it today!
but i wouldn't, even if they run OS X. I owned a VAIO in the past (4-5 years ago) but I threw it away because the mother board died one day (it was less than 1 year old)
Page is down.
could this be something new for a change?
Sony is great and innovative, I mean they want to do great things and produce good tools, but they do not hit mainstream well enough. They often have something that makes it lacking... I mean they can be too proprietary, or too expensive or too innovative, or simply faulty. Sounds like something else we enjoy.
So what if they give us something good, I mean what about a touch net book or something else... we'll have to wait and see.
Could Sony finally be building a computer worthy to replace a Psion? Does it have a decent keyboard? Can it be hacked to run OS-X or at least Darwin?
