Shazam has introduced an all-new version of its music tagging and discovery application for the iPhone and iPod touch, calling Shazam Encore, which is available now at the App Store.
The app offers a host of additional features but costs a one-off £2.99/ €3.99/$4.99. The company’s existing free app will also remain available, the company said, confirming 10 million downloads of that app so far.
“Since our launch on the App Store, Shazam has achieved a huge following with iPhone and iPod touch users and is now one of the most popular music apps in the world,” said Andrew Fisher, CEO of Shazam. “
Shazam Encore is faster at identifying tracks than the free app and also offers music recommendations based on those tracks you tag. There’s tools to find new music through analysis of what’s popular among other users, and music search features.
The new Drive and Tag feature means Shazam automatically enters into car mode when the iPhone is placed in an in-car dock to make it simple to discover what’s playing on the radio even when driving.
Shazam will continue to support the existing free Shazam app on the App Store with new users limited to five Tags per month. The free Shazam app has been enhanced with services such as the ability to share Tags onto a Facebook mini-feed.
Shazamers using both versions can send their Tags as a Tweet to followers; to their Facebook mini-feed or even as a Postcard to friends so they can add the Tag to their own collection in Shazam, as well as preview and buy direct in iTunes. Tags also now appear on Maps inside Shazam, along with the Tag history, to remind users where they were when they captured the moment.
Music reviews and bios and the capacity to add images to tags also exist in the current versions, which are available now in 22 countries.

Advertising in a paid app!?!
Even though you pay for Shazam Encore there is still advertising in the app.
shazam needs bigger db for paid version!
love shazam ...
But I can't justify paying for the app unless there is a SUBSTANTIAL expansion of the database to include more than just American pop music (ok, that's a bit of an exageration).
Asian music (and Latin, for that matter) is almost completely unrepresented!
also: when shazam fails to recognize a tune, shazam does not allow the user to save the audio clip to a file do that a human can try to recognize it.
so It would be nice if the shazam community could share & tag these clips!
