Would love to see an SSH client

An SSH client would rock. Then I could have a really good excuse to get my work to buy me an iPod. I would tell them its a remote access device to my Linux servers!

a supported SSH client would

a supported SSH client would seriously rock the ipod touch and/or iphone. Complete control centre in your hand!.

I don't know - but I think

I don't know - but I think there is something wrong about this. Why are mail and GE missing? It shouldn't be a problem porting them from the iPhone...

Battery Issues?

I'm guessing the iPod Touch has the same battery issues that spawned 3 class action lawsuits over the iPhone battery?

Why do people want Google

Why do people want Google Maps?!?! You dont have WiFi when you're driving! God, how stupid can people be?

yeah. a. some people do have

yeah.
a. some people do have wifi while driving. not that you hould use a google maps app when you are.
b. How about planning your trip before you go like a non idiot

What the iPod touch should be

i totally agree. But some of the other things apple should put into the iPod touch would be a camara that is directional so you could take still pics or turn it around and have a video conversation through some kind of messenger (which they still have not made). Why dont they have a digital radio?? "Zune" does.

My idea of what the iPod touch should be, should have the 400$ price too, look at all the things that iPhone has and iPod touch doesnt have. But they are now both 400$, hmmm...

Some good points, but the

Some good points, but the question is why are we even asking these questions ? This is a marketing technique I had hoped Apple would never use, but here we are. It's like you purchase an automobile, and not a economy car mind you, and they tell you after you've paid the price, they don't manufacture they tires you need for the car.  You will have to wait until someone produces the tires. On top of that we're not giving any tire manufacturers the specs for the tires.  Maybe they can figure it out for themselves, but we'll keep changing the specs, just to keep it interesting.  ANYBODY WANT TO BUY AN IPOD TOUCH CHEAP !  You know Steve Jobs once said he never wanted to be like IBM, well wake up Stevie, either this is a bad dream, or you're doin' it !

moron..... you think Google

moron..... you think Google Earth on Desktops is stupid too?

what about preview.app for

what about preview.app for looking at ebooks and pdfs? think that wud be cool.

ARD

Apple Remote Desktop would be Sweet on the iPod Touch...

Mail/iWork Functionality

For iPod (which I take and hookup to projectors for presentations) or iPhone, it would be great to edit text docs/spreadsheets and even presentations. Heck, Mail on iPods would be great for the WiFi Starbucks locations or when over at friend's houses etc...

And all Apple has to do is move mail from the iPhone....no coding change required!

VNC FTW Please

or at least java support so i can really remote control the main itunes and keep track of things on my other machines wehn i'm in the couch or outsite in the yard

Mail and iChat for the iPod

Mail and iChat for the iPod Touch would take too much marketshare from the iPhone.
They haven't released iChat for iPhone yet, so maybe there. But not on the iPod Touch.

i think a developer kit

i think a developer kit would be amazing

skype or slingbox, prob not but one could wish

skype or slingbox, prob not but one could wish

airtunes support is the thing

actually, wouldn't it be great to be able to stream your music from the ipod over wifi to my airport express stations? Oh, and of course open up the mediasources on my mac, making them accesseable for the ipod

Something that the iPhone already has

I think Apple need to reinforce the artificial software distinctions between iPod touch and iPhone, and therefore, I think the communications aspect of the device will be played down. I don't think we'll see iChat or Mail, since the inclusion of these would infringe on iPhone territory. However, I do think we could see apps that use the internet in a non communications role, so Weather and Maps seem very real possibilities. I will go out on a limb here, and say that the iPod touch will include, on release, an unannounced app, one of these two.

All good things will come

Man, let them save a few things for the update. I'm sure it all will arrive in good time.

iChat because it is a phone killer!

Kill the phones. iPods with voip features would be enough for many people. Most people don't want to answer the phone while driving anyway. Just pickup the messages when you get to the next wifi spot!

There will not be official

There will not be official apps from apple like mail or chat.
They are trying anything to cripple any communications feautures off ipod touch.
So to make people shift to iphone -> more revenue, for apple, more opportunities to squeeze customers.

For the time being i believe

For the time being i believe you're right. But this iphone / ipod touch hype thingie will eventually even out. At that time i guess apple at some time will open up the gates to development for those devices. A rename might be in order since it's becoming more of a pda than an ipod.

iPod classic models store

iPod classic models store media on an internal hard drive, while all other models use flash memory to enable their smaller size
