Google Phone (Nexus One) leaks continue. Jan 5th invite-only release
Does anyone believe that these leaks aren't orchestrated by Google? Today Gizmodo and Engadget both got leaked information about the Nexus One handset from Google.
Gizmodo got to play with one and compare it to the iPhone and the Droid. The Nexus One is thinner and lighter than the iPhone with a faster processor and better screen according to Editor, Jason Chen. The results on web browsing speed were pretty close, however, even though the Nexus one has a bigger screen. Gizmodo said the 3.7 inch AMOLED screen was the best they've ever seen on a smartphone.
Engadget, meanwhile got the hard specs on the device, which don't reveal many surprises but confirm a lot of the speculation. They also got word that it will have an invite-only retail sales start on January 5th.

me want.
This device looks neat but the UI leaves something to be desired (just my opinion.)
I hope they change the design of it before it's released. It's so meh. Palm did a great job.
funny they say it has the best screen they've ever seen on a smartphone, then they don't post the resolution. The same claim was made for the Droid but it was backed up with specs atleast.
$530 is just too expensive for most users.
(Including me!)
Google really did have something going for them. The phone is clearly fast, however, I don't think it's that mind blowing as Google expects us to believe. The UI certainly needs improvement, but with the 2.1 release in the future, it could be a real contender. The biggest issue is the $530 price. Come on Google!! If your goal is to minimize the gap between the 30 million iPhones and your Android phones, why aren't you more willing to take a risk and even some marginal loss and make up the lost profit via app sales? I understand that this pricing also has a lot to do with pre-existing contracts with T-Mobile and Verizon, but come on, you can do so much better. $530 is just too much to justify in this economy for a phone that is not that revolutionary.
I wish Google would partner with O2, would really like a Nexus One, but no way in hell I'm switching to Vodafone to do so.
Why wouldn't you switch to Vodafone? Anyway, it's not in the UK yet, and when it is it's unlikely to be network exclusive. You should just be able to take out an ordinary phone contract and get a free nexus one, as long as you're willing to be in the £35 a month ballpark anyway. It looks like a class phone, just not sure it can rival the iPhone. They should get the alternative to the iSlate out soon.
