Microsoft considering iPhone games ports

Mon, 09/08/2008 - 01:26 — Andy Space

Microsoft plans to develop games for the iPhone, a senior executive revealed at E3 earlier this year.

Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft's games studios said the company is "waiting for the right opportunity to do cross-platform games," and suggested this could include extending Xbox 360 titles to the iPhone.

"We've done things like the pub games in Fable," he said "which aren't cross platform but it's playing an arcade game, building currency that works for you in the Fable game. You could imagine doing that from another device as well."

He added, "It's thinking about the right opportunity. Where it makes sense is more important than just proving that it can be done."

They can be prepared...

"I think I saw this before... maybe 24 years ago... when Microshit stole the Macintosh..."

Maybe, they see how the iPhone's game market can erode Xbox's sales...

Once again, instead of coming

Once again, instead of coming up with the "next big thing", they just choose to cash in on what someone else has already made popular. Go Micro$oft.

4th time trying this lousy CAPTCHA system, can you get a better one? These characters suck.

Driving Lemmings...

It sounds like (from the MS execs comments) that rather than developing games that would add value to the iPhone platform, MS is thinking about products that would drive customers to MS platforms like the XBox or Windows. Imagine some simple but pointless 'game' that allows you to add 'game gold' or the equivalent to your account in some MS MMORPG. MS must never miss an opportunity to use Apple's platforms to drive lemmings to Windows.

yeh right...iphone can erode

yeh right...iphone can erode xbox 360's gaming market cause the iphone is so comparable to the xbox 360..
people are too biased here.granted its a mac site..but too much bias?

microsoft is a business.
number 1 purpose = increase shareholders wealth.if anyone think that the reason a company exists is to be loyal to their customers and be kind and bla bla youre delusional.microsoft is doing what its built for.and its doing it very well.they see an opportunity to make money from the iphone.they take it.why wouldnt you?
theyre not going to compromise their number 1 purpose just because it seems 'greedy' or whatever.
get over your fanboy perception and get back to reality.
business is business.
those who think 'apple wouldnt do that'...is also delusional.
